Weekend Football Review

Football never disappoints!

Premier League MW 1

Fulham 0 vs. 3 Arsenal

Arsenal got their season off to a good start against relegation favourites Fulham as Lacazette, Gabriel, and Aubameyang scored the goals. Willian also managed to get 2 assists so all in all it was a good day for the Gunners. Fulham got a wake up call and they need get back into the training ground because that was not a good start. Arsenal go straight to the top for the weekend while Fulham go to 19th.

Crystal Palace 1 vs. 0 Southampton

Zaha scored in the 13th minute as Palace saw out the game for a win as Southampton had no reply. Big win for Hodgson in a game he was expected to lose. Southampton go back to the drawing board but it’s early days. Palace sit 7th while Southampton sit 14th.

Liverpool 4 vs. 3 Leeds

Probably the most exciting game of the weekend as Liverpool just about got over the line against an exciting Leeds team. Salah got the lead for Liverpool in the 4th minute via a penalty and it looked like it was business as usual. Leeds had other plans though and Harrison equalised for them with a brilliant effort. The game was end to end and Van Dijk scored a header to restore the lead in the 20th minute. Bamford then equalised for Leeds in the 30th minute after a big error from Van Dijk. Salah then made it 3-2 3 minutes later with a thunderous volley. The 2nd half saw much of the same and Klich equalised for Leeds in the 66th minute with a fine volley of his own. It looked like the game would end in a fair draw but Liverpool got a penalty in the end as Rodrigo conceded a penalty, Salah stepped up and converted to complete his hattrick. Shaky start for Liverpool and if they continue to play like that there could be issues over the next few games, the champions sit 6th while Leeds sit 13th in the table. Leeds have given a good account of themselves though and if they continue like this then they should have a good time this season.

West Ham 0 vs. 2 Newcastle

After a shaky first half Newcastle grew into the game in the 2nd and Wilson gave the away side the lead on his debut in the 56th minute. Hendrick then made it 2 in the 87th minute as he also got a debut goal. West Ham’s problems continue and they do not look good at the moment while Newcastle do look like a side to keep an eye on. West Ham sit 18th while Newcastle sit 4th.

West Brom 0 vs. 3 Leicester

West Brom stayed strong for the first half but Leicester showed their quality in the 2nd as Castagne got a debut goal and Vardy added another two. West Brom sit bottom while Leicester sit 2nd for now. Not the best start for West Brom but their moments to be excited about while Leicester start well once again but lets see over the course of the season.

Tottenham 0 vs. 1 Everton

Calvert-Lewin got a goal in the 55th minute to seal the deal for Everton in a game where Everton could have easily scored 4 or 5 goals. Tottenham offered nothing and Mourinho needs to do something while Everton looked lively and James Rodriguez played a very elegant game. Tottenham sit 15th, while Everton sit 8th.

Sheffield United 0 vs. 2 Wolverhampton

Jimenez and Saiss scored in the first 6 minutes and it was game over as Wolves chose to consolidate that lead while Sheffield were not able to break their defence. A good start for Wolves in a tough game while Sheffield United seem a bit off since the end of last season. Sheffield sit 17th while Wolves move up to 5th.

La Liga MW 1

Valencia beat Levante 4-2, Villarreal drew with Huesca 1-1, and Real Sociedad drew with Valladolid 1-1 amongst other games. Lots of the big teams missed the opening week in Spain but Valencia sit top of the table for now.

DFB Pokal First Round

Monchengladbach beat Oberneuland 0-8, Leipzig beat Nurnberg 0-3, Dortmund beat Duisburg 0-5 and Bayern play on Tuesday night. Straightforward wins for all teams involved and Bayern should also win comfortably.

Ligue MW 3

Lyon drew with Bordeaux 0-0, Lille beat Metz 1-0, Monaco beat Nantes 2-1, and the eye catching game was PSG vs. Marseille where the away team won 0-1. PSG had 3 players sent off including Neymar in the final minutes while Marseille had 2 sent off. Neymar said Alavarez made racist comments towards him which led to Neymar punching Alaverez in the back of the head. Not going great for PSG at the moment with 2 losses to begin the season. Rennes, Monaco, Lille, and St.Etienne make up the top four while Marseille are 5th having played 2 games, Lyon are 10th having played 2 games and PSG are 18th having played 2 games and lost both.
