Midweek Football Review

Some surprises!

Carabao Cup 2nd Round

Newcastle 1 vs. 0 Blackburn

Ryan Fraser scored his first goal for Newcastle in the 35th minute in his debut game for the club as they got past Blackburn to reach the 3rd round.

West Ham 3 vs. 0 Charlton Athletic

Haller got two goals in the first half while Anderson added a 3rd late in the 2nd as West Ham got back to winning ways with a comfortable win over Charlton. The Hammers now head into the 3rd round.

Bournemouth 0 (11) vs. (10) 0 Crystal Palace

I predicted this game to be tight and it was as neither team could score against the other for the 90 minutes. The game went to penalties and it went on for a while as Bournemouth finally got over the line with their 11th penalty. Palace go back to Premier League football and Bournemouth continue to the 3rd round.

Burton 1 vs. 3 Aston Villa

Daniel scored in the 2nd minute to give Burton the lead but it woke Villa up as Watkins got his first goal for Villa followed by Grealish and Davis. Villa progress to the 3rd Round while Burton are dumped out.

West Brom 3 vs. 0 Harrogate

Harper, Kanu, and Robinson scored in a comfortable win for West Brom as they progressed to the 3rd Round against lowly Harrogate.

Ipswich 0 vs. 1 Fulham

Mitrovic scored in the 38th minute and it was enough for Fulham to reach the next round as Ipswich were knocked out.

Southampton 0 vs. 2 Brentford

Norgaard and Silva scored right before half time as Brentford make it to the 3rd Round and Southampton are dumped out. Southampton have had a shaky start to the season and need to find form soon.

Leeds 1 (8) vs. (9) 1 Hull City

Wilks scored in the 5th minute to give Hull the lead but Alioski managed to take the game to penalties with an extra time equaliser in the end. Hull got through on penalties and Leeds are dumped out in the 2nd round.

Everton 3 vs. 0 Salford

Keane scored in the 8th minute to give Everton the lead and Sigurdsson and Kean scored in the 2nd half to seal the deal for Ancelotti and co. Everton progress to the next round while Salford are sent home.

Burnley 1 (5) vs. (4) 1 Sheffield United

McGoldrick scored in the 4th minute and Vydra equalised for Burnley in the 67th minute. The game went on to penalties and Burnley went through while Sheffield United are knocked out. Not a great start for the Blades while Burnley do well in their first game of the season.

Wolverhampton 0 vs. 1 Stoke

Jacob Brown scored in the 86th minute as Stoke edged a win against Wolves and progressed to the 3rd Round. Wolves are knocked out and sent back to focus on the Premier League.

Brighton 4 vs. 0 Portsmouth

Mac Allister, Jahanbakhsh, Bernardo, and Gyokeres all scored to give Brighton a comfortable win against Portsmouth.

Ligue MW 1 (Remaining games)

Monpellier beat Lyon 2-1 as they Montpellier move to 5th while Lyon drop to 11th. PSG just about managed to beat Metz 1-0 with ten men as they got their first win of the season and move to 15th. St.Etienne beat Marseille 0-2 as they move to the top of the table while Marseille drop down to 8th.
