Weekend Football Preview

Football roars on!

Premier League MW 2

Everton vs. West Brom

8th placed Everton take on 20th placed West Brom as the promoted side play their first game in Liverpool. Everton did well to beat Spurs and could have easily scored more while West Brom lost to Leicester. West Brom did well in the Carabao Cup at the weekend against weaker opponents and need to put in a good performance in this game. West Brom have brought in Ivanovic, and Gallagher as well to add some steel and creativity to their side. Everton have the quality though and should win this game on paper.

Leeds vs. Fulham

The two newly promoted teams go head to head as 19th placed Fulham travel to 13th placed Leeds. Both teams lost last weekend but in different circumstances and based on those performances Leeds should win this game. Fulham have brought in some reinforcements but whether they play is yet to be seen.

Man United vs. Crystal Palace

United sit 12th as they play their first game of the season against 7th placed Palace who won last weekend. United have only brought in Van de Beek and it is yet to be seen whether he starts or not. Palace might have Batshuayi start this game with Eze as well while Zaha looks in form. An interesting game especially with all United’s problems over the summer and their lack of depth. United should win this on paper but Palace could get a point or more.

Arsenal vs. West Ham

London Derby time as 1st placed Arsenal take on 18th placed West Ham. Arsenal will be enjoying life at the top of the table right now and might continue to enjoy it this week with West Ham facing them who have been poor. The Hammers did well in the Carabao Cup but the Premier League and Arsenal are different opponents. Should be a win for Arsenal and if West Ham manage a point or more it would be massive for them.

Southampton vs. Tottenham

14th placed Southampton take on 15th placed Tottenham as the two sides face each other after having lost last weekend. Southampton have been poor as they lost in the Carabao Cup as well while Tottenham just about managed to beat Pivlovski in the Europa League on Thursday in Bulgaria. Gareth Bale is heading into London on Friday in what is a great comeback for a fan favourite but whether he is available or not is yet to be seen. Reguilon is also coming in and should slot right into right back when available. The two teams need a win and both have quality, an interesting game.

Newcastle vs. Brighton

Newcastle sit 4th as they take on 16th placed Brighton who lost to Chelsea last weekend. Newcastle look good after the first game but Brighton were also impressive against Chelsea for most of the 90 minutes. An open game which either team can win.

Leicester vs. Burnley

Leicester sit 2nd having won last weekend as they entertain Burnley who play their first game of the season sitting 10th. Burnley were involved in the Carabao Cup and they did well to beat Sheffield on penalties. A tough game for both teams and either can come out on top.

Aston Villa vs. Sheffield United

Villa sit 9th as they play their first game of the season against Sheffield United who sit 17th and lost last weekend. The Blades have started the season poorly and are looking to return to last seasons solidity but Villa have improved over the summer and look a better team. It should be an interesting game that can go either way.

Wolverhampton vs. Man City

5th placed Wolves take on 11th placed Man City as Pep and co play their first game of the season against Nuno and team. Pep has had a decent summer having brought in Torres and Ake and the camp has been quiet as they look to regain the title from Liverpool. Wolves are a tough hurdle though and it should be an interesting game.

La Liga MW 2

Valencia take on Celta Vigo, Villarreal take on Eibar, Getafe take on Osasuna, and Real Madrid play their first game of the season as they travel to Real Sociedad. Valencia, Granada, Osasuna, and Real Betis make up the top four at the moment. The likes of Atletico, Barcelona, and Sevilla will feature starting next weekend.

Bundesliga MW 1

The Bundesliga is back as Bayern take on Schalke, Dortmund welcome Monchengladbach, Leipzig entertain Mainz, and Leverkusen travel to Wolfsburg. Some very interesting games to start the season as Bayern look to continue their hot streak. Will any team actually manage to rival Bayern over the course of the whole season or the Champions continue to dominate after January as usual? Sane has joined Bayern, while Dortmund have brought in Reinier, Bellingham, and Meunier. Leipzig have brought in Hwang, while Leverkusen have brought in Schick. Werner and Havertz have left Germany to join Chelsea as well. Many questions whose answers begin this weekend.

Serie MW 1

Serie A also returns to action as Roma travel to Verona, Napoli travel to Parma, Juventus entertain Sampdoria, and Milan welcome Bologna. Inter will begin their season next weekend. Interesting narratives in Serie A this season, whether Pirlo can continue Juventus’s dominance, or will Conte manage to win the title this season. Will Milan return to Champions League glory and how will Roma, Napoli and the others fair? Interesting transfers as well with Hakimi joining Inter, Tonali joining Milan, Osimhen joining Napoli, among others. Several stalwarts have also left clubs like Allan, Higuain, Schick etc. Many interesting situations as Serie A starts this weekend.

Ligue MW 4

Lyon welcome Nimes, Rennes entertain Monaco, PSG travel to Nice, St Etienne travel to Nantes, and Marseille play Lille. Ligue 1 continues on as PSG play catch up to the rest with no games in hand remaining for any team.
