Weekend Football Preview

Big big games!

Premier League MW 3

Brighton vs. Man United

Brighton sit 8th in the league as they welcome 15th placed United who have played a game less. United were poor against Palace last weekend and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get better against Brighton who have played well. Brighton look fresh for the season and their pace could cause United problems. I expect a Brighton win.

Crystal Palace vs. Everton

5th vs. 2nd as Palace take on Everton with both teams having won their first two games. Palace look good as they beat United last weekend while Everton beat Spurs and then thrashed West Brom last weekend. Everton look really good but Palace is decent competition. A close game but I think Everton could edge a win.

Burnley vs. Southampton

14th placed Burnley take on 19th placed Southampton with both teams looking to get their first points of the season. Burnley have played 1 lost 1 while Southampton have played 2 lost 2. It’s been a poor start for the Saints and Burnley won’t be an easy game. This result could go either way.

Sheffield United vs. Leeds

17th placed Sheffield United are searching for their first win as they take on 10th placed Leeds who won last weekend. Leeds are great going forward but suspect in defence and so this could be a high scoring game. Sheffield United need to get back into last season’s groove because they are struggling at the moment. An interesting game that can go either way.

Tottenham vs. Newcastle

6th placed Tottenham got a big win last weekend as they entertain 13th placed Newcastle who lost last weekend to Brighton. Tottenham look good and while Newcastle have been playing well this should be 3 points to Mourinho and team.

Man City vs. Leicester

7th placed City started their season with a win last weekend as they take on 1st placed Leicester who have won 2 in 2. This should be an interesting game although quality wise City should have this in the bag. A close game for sure but City should edge the win unless Leicester put in a solid performance.

West Ham vs. Wolverhampton

West Ham sit 16th having lost the first two games but they played well against Arsenal last weekend as they entertain 12th placed Wolves who also lost last weekend. It should be an interesting game that can go either way.

Fulham vs. Aston Villa

Fulham having lost the first two games and sitting 18th take on Villa who won their opening game and sit 9th. Villa are looking good over the last 1-2 weeks and they have bought some good signings into the club. Fulham seem to be struggling. It should be a close game but Villa should win.

Liverpool vs. Arsenal

Liverpool take on Arsenal in a Monday night game as 4th faces 3rd. The two teams have already faced each other this season with Arsenal beating Liverpool in the Community Shield. The two teams have also won their opening games but Liverpool have looked the better team. It will be Klopp’s attack vs Arteta’s defence and so it should be an entertaining game. I expect a draw or Liverpool to win.

La Liga MW 3

Valencia take on Huesca, Real Madrid travel to play Real Betis, Atletico play their first game of the season against Granada, and Barcelona take on Villarreal in their season opener. Real Madrid are looking to get their first 3 points of the season while Atletico and Barcelona will look to start their season off with wins as well. An interesting weekend in La Liga.

Serie MW 2

Atalanta play Torino, Lazio travel to Cagliari, Inter play Fiorentina, Napoli play Genoa, Milan travel to Crotone, and Juventus travel to Roma. Some big games in Serie A this weekend as Inter, Lazio and Atalanta kick their season off amongst others.

Bundesliga MW 2

Leverkusen entertain Leipzig, Dortmund travel to Augsburg, Monchengladbach play Union Berlin, Schalke play Werder Bremen, and Bayern travel to Hoffenheim. Interesting games in the Bundesliga this weekend with Leverkusen vs Leipzig the toughest of the fixtures.

Ligue MW 5

Lille entertain Nantes, St.Etienne entertain Rennes, Marseille welcome Metz, Monaco welcome Strasbourg, Lyon travel to Lorient, and PSG travel Reims. Other than St.Etienne vs Rennes this should be a straight forward weekend for Ligue 1’s biggest teams as PSG gain pace after a slow start.
