Trip to the Hawthorns!
Chelsea travel to play West Brom for MW 3 of this season’s Premier League. West Brom sit bottom of the table having lost their first two games, a defeat to Leicester and then a thumping from Everton. Slaven Bilic’s side have struggled to set the tone for their season as similar to Leeds and Fulham neither of these three teams seem to have good defences. West Brom finished 2nd in the Championship last season and put in some solid performances on their way to promotion. Bilic is a very likeable manager and perhaps his most successful stint in the Premier League was at West Ham. West Brom will be fighting to survive but Bilic will be a key factor in deciding if they do.
Chelsea go into Saturday night’s game sitting 11th having beaten Brighton and then suffering a loss to Liverpool last weekend. The Liverpool game went well until the red card to Christensen and from then on it was always going to be an uphill task. Chelsea played Barnsley in the Carabao Cup during the week which saw us win 6-0, a hattrick from Havertz, along with goals from Tammy, Barkley, and Giroud. The defence let through a lot of shots against Barnsley but that was mainly due to no Kante and a makeshift defence which was fielded for fitness rather than actual purpose. We did find out that Kai is best as a 10 and that he can form some sort of exciting partnership with Tammy as the striker. It was also nice to see all 3 of our strikers doing well over the last few weeks albeit Werner is still searching for his first goals.
West Brom Team Preview
Hegazi is back in contention for West Brom while Gallagher won’t be able to feature against Chelsea after going to West Brom on loan. The threats from West Brom are the likes of Diangana, Pereira, and Robinson. Pereira is perhaps their most creative player while Diangana signed form West Ham and has been a small spark in their first few games. West Brom will probably have 5 at the back and defend hoping that they can counter with pace against Chelsea.
Chelsea Team Preview
Pulisic and Ziyech are still a week away but have returned to training. Edouard Mendy signed for Chelsea on Thursday and got a couple of sessions of training in but this game comes to soon for him. I think Christensen is back in contention but whether he plays or not is yet to be seen. I think Caballero will start in goal after his heroics against Barnsley while Reece James and Azpilicueta will start as the full backs. Chilwell could start at left back but Lampard said he wanted to be cautious with Ben. I think Silva will start alongside Zouma in defence after the Brazilian put in a calm performance against Barnsley. Kante will be back as CDM while Kovacic will probably start alongside him. Havertz should feature as a 10 while Werner and Mount play on the wings. Tammy should start up front after impressing against Barnsley. Hudson-Odoi could start but I don’t think he can push out any of these players from the starting XI. That’s a strong lineup and the attack is especially exciting. The physicality from Tammy and the pace of Havertz and Werner should create several opportunities for Chelsea.
Starting XI Prediction
With some interesting fixtures for other top 6 teams, tonight is a big chance for Chelsea to get back level with the others. I have a feeling if Abraham, Werner, and Havertz all start in the position’s above we could see a big win for Chelsea. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
