Weekend Football Review

Some big results!

Premier League MW 3

Brighton 2 vs. 3 Man United

Brighton took on United as the Seagulls dominated the game from start to finish and hit the post 5 times but ended up falling to a VAR decision after full time. Maupay gave Brighton the lead in the 40th minute but a Dunk own goal 3 minutes restored the scoreline to 1-1. Rashford then scored a brilliant goal in the 55th minute to give United the lead but it was massively against the run of play. Solly March finally got the equaliser for Brighton in the 94th minute and it was the least they deserved. United went down the other end though and got a corner and a header from Maguire hit Maupay’s hand as the final time whistle was blown. Since the incident happened before the game ended VAR was consulted a penalty was given and Fernandes converted to give United a very very lucky win. Brighton drop down to 12th, while United climb one place up into 14th.

Crystal Palace 1 vs. 2 Everton

Calvert-Lewin scored in the 10th minute to give Everton the lead as Ancelotti’s side continued their excellent start to the season. Kouyate equalised for Palace in the 26th minute but a Richarlison penalty in the 40th minute meant that Everton got the lead back. Everton saw out the game for 3 points as they remain with a 100 percent win record and sit 3rd on goal difference while Palace lose their first game and drop to 6th.

Burnley 0 vs. 1 Southampton

Ings scored in the 5th minute to give Southampton the only goal of the game and win their first game of the season. Burnley drop down to 18th with 2 losses to start the season while Southampton move up to 15th with their first win.

Sheffield United 0 vs. 1 Leeds

After a very tense game Bamford scored the winner in the 88th minute to get Leeds their 2nd win and first cleansheet. Sheffield United drop down to 19th with 3 losses to start the season and not having scored a single goal as they try to find a solution. Leeds climb up to 7th with the win as they start the season well.

Tottenham 1 vs. 1 Newcastle

Tottenham scored in the 25th minute via Moura to gain the lead but it went down hill for Spurs from there. Tottenham dominated the 1st half and should have scored several goals but Newcastle stayed strong. Son pulled a hamstring and didn’t come out for the 2nd half. Tottenham struggled to seal the game and Newcastle equalised in the 97th minute via a penalty after a ridiculous hand ball was given against Dier. Tottenham drop down to 8th while Newcastle climb up to 10th.

Man City 2 vs. 5 Leicester

The result of the weekend came from Manchester as Leicester thrashed Pep’s City at the Etihad. Mahrez gave City the lead in the 4th minute as it looked like business as usual but Vardy equalised via a penalty in the 37th minute. The 2nd half saw Leicester turn up as the better side as Vardy got the lead in the 53rd minute and then sealed his hattrick in the 58th minute via a penalty. Maddison then scored a beauty after coming off the bench as his goal made it 1-4 in the 77th minute. Ake got one back for City in the 84th minute but City again conceded a penalty in the 88th minute which Tielemans converted. City drop down to 13th having already lost a game while Leicester maintain their 100 percent record as they remain top of the table.

West Ham 4 vs. 0 Wolverhampton

The surprise results on Saturday didn’t end with Leicester as West Ham thrashed Wolves. Bowen got two goals while Jimenez scored an own goal and Haller got the 4th in the extra time. West Ham get their first win as they continue to improve and climb to 11th while Wolves drop down to 16th.

Fulham 0 vs. 3 Aston Villa

Grealish, Hourihane, and Mings all scored in a dominant win for Villa against promoted Fulham. Fulham make it 3 defeats to start the season as they sit bottom of the table while Villa make it 2 wins to start the season as they climb up to 4th in the table.

Liverpool 3 vs. 1 Arsenal

These two sides were unbeaten going into the game and only Liverpool came out with a 100% record as Arsenal lost their first game of the season. Liverpool dominated proceedings but it was Lacazette who got the lead for Arsenal in the 25th minute as a lazy clearance from Robertson found Lacazette who’s scuffed shot bounced over Alisson. The lead was short lived though as Mane equalised in the 28th minute and Robertson gave Liverpool the lead in the 34th minute. Arsenal held on for much of the game as Liverpool attacked constantly. Lacazette had a really good chance to equalise for Arsenal in the 2nd half but his finish went straight to Alisson. Jota then came off the bench to cap off a brilliant cameo with a debut goal which sealed the win for Liverpool. Liverpool move up to 2nd while Arsenal drop down to 5th.
