Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace MW 4 Preview

London derby before the international break!

Chelsea welcome fellow London side Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for MW 4 of the Premier League season. Palace sit 6th in the table having won their first 2 games and lost last weekend to Everton. Palace have started the season well and bought some class players as Zaha looks in form and fired up for the new season. Their win against Southampton to start the season was a solid 3 points and the win against Manchester United that followed was an even better performance. Their loss to Everton was a close one against a Carlo Ancelotti side that is in top form at the start of the season. They have scored 5 and conceded 3 having had 1 clean sheet in the process. Roy Hodgson has got them playing some solid football as they look to finish in the top half of the table.

Chelsea lost to Spurs during the week on penalties and are now heading into this game trying to enter the international break with some positive momentum. For 45 minutes on Tuesday Chelsea had all the possession but failed to create anything from it bar the Werner goal. The 2nd half then saw an open game and after some missed chances Spurs equalised and proceeded on penalties. The West Brom game saw a poor 1st half but a comeback in the 2nd but it was a position we should never have been in. Chelsea are very much in the pre-season phase at the moment in the sense that crucial players are only now getting back to full fitness and have only had 2-3 training sessions together. Most of our signings haven’t even started a game together and without doing that building chemistry will be tough. Right now for Chelsea the main objective is to get these players on the pitch and put in a consistent system and lineup because regardless of the position of the squad we need to start winning games. At the moment we sit 9th in the table with 4 points and a win today can take us up to 4th but putting that aside 3 points are a must for Chelsea just to give the fans something to live on for the 14 days after.

Chelsea Team Preview

Ziyech is still out of contention although he is training now and should be properly fit after the break. Pulisic is back but Frank has said that he will most likely start from the bench. Mendy should start in goal with Reece James at right back and Chilwell at left back. Silva and Zouma should make up the centre back positions. Kante should start as the CDM with Havertz and Mount ahead of him. Werner should start on the wings with Hudson-Odoi and Tammy should start up front. Werner should ideally play as the striker as I feel he finds it hard to impact the game from the wing position but until Pulisic isn’t fully back with Ziyech Werner might have to continue down the left if only for this game. The crucial thing will be to play fast and make quick passes because against Tottenham we failed to break the defence and were too lazy and predictable with our possession. We have more than enough quality to win the game and now it’s important we get the 3 points.

Crystal Palace Team Preview

Cahill, Tomkins and Van Aanholt are back in training but won’t be fit for this game. Hodgson prefers the 4-4-2 formation as it’s brought the most solidity to the team as a whole. Kouyate has been playing alongside Sakho as the centre backs while Mitchell has provided some pace as the right back. McCarthy and McArthur are solid in the middle with Townsend and Eze providing flair and pace from the wings. Zaha and Ayew are good strikers up front, with Zaha being the key. Michy also plays for Palace but he can’t play against his parent club. Palace will set up to counter with pace and they have plenty of that and that is where Chelsea will need to be wary.

It’s been a tough week for some Chelsea fans as questions have been raised of Mount, Lampard etc amongst others. This will be a tricky game as Palace are a tricky customer but Chelsea have the ability and talent to get 3 points. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
