Man United vs. Chelsea MW 6 Preview

Big Big Game!

Chelsea travel to Manchester to play Manchester United on Saturday night for MW 6 of the Premier League season. Manchester United sit 15th in the table with 6 points having lost 2 and won 2 with a game in hand. United finished 3rd last season and it looked like the only way was up. United’s whole summer transfer window was dominated by the chase for Sancho which ultimately ended with the player staying at Dortmund and United falling well short of the asking price. The window did see Van de Beek, Cavani, and Telles come in which is better than nothing. The season started poorly with a loss to Palace and was followed by an extremely lucky win against Brighton. A 1-6 thrashing by Spurs at Old Trafford followed as clouds loomed over Manchester entering into the international break. The return from international break has been good for United though as they beat Newcastle United 1-4 and followed that up with what was a tactically astute defensive performance in a 1-2 win in Paris. Going into this game United are the team in better form if one is too look at results over the last two games and being at home the pressure on Ole is to backup the PSG result with a win so as to not negate what happened in Paris.

Chelsea go into this game 9th in the table and 3 points can take us up to 3rd if results are favourable. Chelsea drew last weekend against Southampton in a performance that showed our offensive threat but also our defensive frailties. Now Silva, and Mendy did not play against Southampton and that did make a difference as they played against Sevilla and we managed to keep a clean sheet. Now Lampard over the last two games has seen Chelsea put in a solid shift in attack and then in defence but not together and that is what we need to happen against United. The attack and defence need to work cohesively in order for us to put in a complete performance. Sevilla kept our attack quiet but Werner was handled well by two very physical defenders and they got close to him something that Liverpool did as well. I think Chelsea will find more space against United and we could use our pace well in the attacking phase.

Chelsea Team Preview

Lampard stated that the only players missing from this game are Kepa who has a slight shoulder problem and Gilmour who is returning from a long term injury. Cech was named in the Premier League squad but he won’t involved in any capacity for this game. Mendy will start in goal and I believe Azpilicueta will start at right back with Reece James dropped. I personally don’t have a preference between the two at the moment because both bring different characteristics to the team. I think similar to Palace we need one of our full backs to sit back and that will probably be Azpi. Silva and Zouma should continue as our centre backs with Chilwell keeping his place at left back. Kante should keep his place as part of a midfield 2 and I would rest Jorginho and play Kovacic alongside him. Pulisic, Havertz, and Mount will probably start behind Werner but I would like to see Hudson-Odoi get a start if Mount is rested. Ideally I would start Ziyech and I have a sneaky feeling he could start the game. Either way it’s a strong XI and well placed to stay solid defensively and put in a great performance going forward.

Man United Team Preview

United will be without Martial who is banned but the rest should be fit. Ole stated that Cavani, Greenwood and Maguire are also in contention. I expect Maguire to return the lineup if fit and the usual danger men of Rashford and Bruno Fernandes will obviously feature. Telles is also someone who can cause problems offensively and so his pace will also need to be handled by Chelsea. Van de Beek or Pogba is a continued debate and either one could start with both having talent.

We played this fixture during the first MW of last season and lost 4-0 and many of the players in this team won’t remember that. Chelsea have the quality to win this game and put in a very good performance as well and I believe we will. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
