Weekend Football Review

A quiet boring weekend.

Premier League MW 6

Aston Villa 0 vs. 3 Leeds

Bamford scored a hattrick in the 2nd half for Leeds as Bielsa’s side ended Villa’s winning start to the season. Villa suffered a wake up call of sorts after their brilliant start to the season. Villa drop down to 3rd only a point behind Everton while Leeds climb up to 6th in the table, 3 points from Everton.

West Ham 1 vs. 1 Man City

Antonio scored a brilliant goal in the 18th minute to give West Ham the lead in a game where they are usually beaten comfortably. Foden came on in the 2nd half and scored the equaliser in the 51st minute but neither team could get the winner. West Ham drop down to 12th with the point while City drop down to 13th. 

Fulham 1 vs. 2 Crystal Palace

Riedewald gave Palace the lead in the 8th minute after Fulham had actually started as the better team. Zaha made it 0-2 in the 2nd half and Kamara was sent off for Fulham in the 88th minute. Cairney did get a goal back in the 95th minute but it was too little too late. Fulham remain bottom of the table while Palace move up to 8th with a win as they return to winning ways. 

Liverpool 2 vs. 1 Sheffield United

Berge gave Sheffield United a shock lead via the penalty spot in the 13th minute but it woke up Liverpool. Firmino equalised in the 41st minute after Liverpool had been fighting hard and in the 2nd half Jota grabbed the winner. Liverpool edge the 3 points as they move into 2nd and level on points with Everton while Sheffield United remain 19th. 

Southampton 2 vs. 0 Everton

Everton’s unbeaten start to the season also came to an end as Southampton beat them 2-0. Ward-Prowse and Che Adams scored in the 1st half as they gave Southampton a comfortable lead and Everton had no reply as Digne was sent off in the 72nd minute for Ancelotti’s team. Southampton jump up to 7th with the win while Everton remain top of the table but only on goal difference. 

Wolverhampton 1 vs. 1 Newcastle

Jimenez gave Wolves the lead in the 80th minute after a very boring and uneventful game but Murphy equalised for Newcastle in the 89th minute as both teams ended the day with a point. Wolves drop down to 9th while Newcastle drop down to 14th. 

Arsenal 0 vs. 1 Leicester

Vardy got an 80th minute winner from the bench for Leicester as Arsenal once again failed to play any quality football under Arteta even with Partey on the pitch. Leicester remain 4th having got 3 points and fighting hard for the win with all the injuries while Arsenal are shoved down to 11th with the loss. 

Brighton 1 vs. 1 West Brom

Livermore scored an own goal in the 40th minute as Brighton got the lead but Karlan Grant scored in the 83rd minute for West Brom to equalise. Brighton remain 16th with the point while West Brom remain 17th with the draw as they search for their first win. 

Burnley 0 vs. 1 Tottenham

Son scored in the 76th minute as Tottenham won a very tight game and finally beat Dyche’s defence. Burnley remain 18th in the table while Tottenham climb up to 5th in the table as Tottenham patches together points. 

La Liga MW 7

Elche beat Valencia 2-1, Eibar beat Sevilla 0-1, Atletico beat Real Betis 2-0, and Real Madrid beat Barcelona 1-3 in a massive game. Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, Granada and Villarreal make up the top four while Atletico sit 5th. Barcelona and Sevilla sit 12th and 13th in the table with 2 games in hand while Valencia sit 14th. Good weekend for Real Madrid and they have a game in hand as they sit a point from the top. 

Serie MW 5

Sampdoria beat Atalanta 1-3, Inter beat Genoa 0-2, Lazio beat Bologna 2-1, Napoli beat Benevento 1-2, Juventus drew with Verona 1-1, and Milan drew with Roma 3-3. Some interesting results in Serie A as Milan stay top of the league and actually extend it to 2 points. Napoli, Sassuolo, and Inter make up the top four. Juventus sit 5th, Atalanta sit 6th, Roma sit 9th and Lazio sit 12th. 

Bundesliga MW 5

Leipzig beat Hertha Berlin 2-1, Monchengladbach beat Mainz 2-3, Bayern thrashed Frankfurt 5-0, Dortmund beat Schalke 3-0, and Leverkusen beat Augsburg 3-1. Straight forward wins in the Bundesliga for the big teams involved as Leizpig, Bayern, Dortmund, and Leverkusen make up the top four once again. Monchengladbach sit 6th while Schalke sit 17th. 

Ligue MW 8

Angers beat Rennes 1-2, Marseille beat Lorient 0-1, PSG thrashed Dijon 4-0, Lille drew with Nice 1-1, and Lyon thrashed Monaco 4-1. PSG finally reach the top of the table after their poor start to the season while Lille, Rennes and Marseille make up the top four. Lyon sit 6th while Monaco sit 12th in the table.
