Just keep building!
Chelsea welcome 20th placed Sheffield United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for MW 8 of the Premier League season. Sheffield United have drawn 1 and lost 6 games this season in what has been a very poor start for Chris Wilder and his team. It’s hard to explain the dramatic drop in form from last season but the lack of goal scorers in the team seems to be a contributing factor. Sheffield United did strengthen their squad in terms of quantity of players but the quality of the players is up for debate. The likes of Ampadu have impressed but Brewster and Burke up top have not hit the ground running.
Chelsea go into this game in good form and building momentum. The attack has been scoring goals and the defence has been keeping clean sheets and that is all Lampard can ask from the team. There is still a feeling that there is a lot to come from this Chelsea side and playing together will only help send them forward. Football goes into an international break for a fortnight after this weekend so Chelsea will want to end this period on a high.
Chelsea Team Preview
Chelsea will be without Pulisic who’s hamstring injury seems a bit more serious than first thought, and Havertz who is still in isolation due to covid. Lampard will look to continue with the 4-3-3 and so Mendy should start in goal with Reece James at right back and Chilwell at left back. Silva and Zouma should start as the centre backs once again with Kante in the CDM role. For the two attacking eights I would start Mount and Ziyech as the 8’s with Werner, and Hudson-Odoi as the wingers and Tammy up front. Ziyech likes to drift in during the game and while he is more of a winger is would be interesting to see what he can do more centrally. Other than that this is the best and most consistent lineup we can field.
Sheffield United Team Preview
Fleck and Moussett are out injured while Ampadu can’t play against Chelsea due to parent club reasons. Everyone knows about Sheffield United’s wall of centre backs and their flying centre back concept so those players are always a threat especially in set pieces. Berge is a creative player in the midfield and can cause threat while the likes of McBurnie and Brewster haven’t caught form yet but are dangerous players. The likes of McGoldrick, Burke etc can all pose a threat if they play.
Starting XI Prediction
It’s all about continuing to build this form and momentum and Chelsea will know that as they take on Sheffield United. Sheffield United have been poor but they are a threat and their position doesn’t represent their quality. Lampard will be aware of that and while Chelsea might need patience during the game we have the quality to win it. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
