Weekend Football Preview

FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!

Premier League MW 9

Aston Villa vs. Brighton

6th placed Villa take on 16th placed Brighton with the Seagulls having won only 1 game this season and none of their last 5. Villa bounced back from two defeats by beating Arsenal in emphatic fashion before the break and will look to continue it against Brighton.

Tottenham vs. Man City

2nd vs. 10th as Tottenham and Mourinho take on City and Pep. Tottenham have been good this season, scoring goals as well as grinding out results while City have been inconsistent but decent. City can cut the gap to Spurs down to 2 points with a win but a win for Mourinho would make that gap 8 points and put Pep into a tricky situation. A game between two opposing styles but plenty of talent on show and a must watch.

Man United vs. West Brom

14th vs. 18th as United take on West Brom. United beat Everton to quieten some of of the rumblings against Ole and should beat West Brom. West Brom are still looking for their first win this season and will be up for the challenge against United. United should win this game but a loss would bring the pressure back on to United especially if they hand West Brom their first win of the season.

Fulham vs. Everton

17th placed Fulham look for their 2nd win of the season as they take on 7th placed Everton who have lost their last 3 games in a row. A big game for Ancelotti and Everton who have stepped of the throttle in the last month or so while Parker and co will want to cause an upset.

Sheffield United vs. West Ham

20th placed Sheffield United take on 12th placed West Ham with pressure on Wilder and co to get their first win of the season. Just a solitary point this season, the Blades have not been the same since football returned after lockdown. West Ham have been doing well under Moyes and are slowly moving up the table. This should be a West Ham win but it will be tough to break down Sheffield United.

Leeds vs. Arsenal

Leeds had a good start to the season but have tailored off in recent weeks and sit 15th as they take on 11th placed Arsenal who suffered a shameful defeat against Villa 2 weeks ago. Two opposing styles, and while Arsenal fans will want more attacking football their cautious approach could actually be the better option against Leeds. An interesting game that could go either way.

Liverpool vs. Leicester

3rd vs. 1st as Liverpool invite Leicester to Anfield. Liverpool have several injuries to their defence and Salah is also out. Leicester were in this same position last season as well but Liverpool were comfortable winners and so Rodgers will hope to take advantage of the situation and go clear at the top. A high pressure game for both teams and both managers.

Burnley vs. Crystal Palace

19th placed Burnley take on 8th placed Palace with Dyche under pressure to get a win this season. Palace have been doing quite well but Burnley’s defence is strong regardless of form and it will be a different test for Hodgson and co.

Wolverhampton vs. Southampton

9th placed Wolves ended a good run of form with a defeat before the international break while Southampton sit 4th having been in brilliant form. Hassenhutl has got the Saints performing well but Nuno and team will be another tough test for them. This should be a highly engaging game between two talented managers.

La Liga MW 10

Real Madrid travel to Villarreal, Sevilla invite Celta Vigo, Barcelona travel to play Atletico, and Valencia travel to Alaves. The pick of the games is Barcelona against Atletico but the shame is that Suarez has tested positive for Covid and so wont be available for this game. The usual big hitters in Spain need to patch together some consistent form with Atletico looking like the most inform team out of the traditional 3 at the moment.

Serie MW 8

Lazio travel to Crotone, Atalanta travel to Spezia, Juventus welcome Cagliari, Roma invite Parma, Inter take on Torino, and Napoli welcome AC Milan. Straight forward wins expected for most of the teams involved but Milan against Napoli should be a tough one with the league leaders taking on their legend Gattuso and Napoli sitting 3 points behind them. A big game for both teams.

Bundesliga MW 8

Bayern welcome Werder Bremen, Leverkusen travel to Arminia, Monchengladbach take on Augsburg, Schalke take on Wolfsburg, Leipzig travel to Frankfurt, and Dortmund travel to Berlin to play Hertha. It should be a decent weekend for the big teams as everyone once again plays catch up to Bayern with the champions having gone 2 points clear at the top before the break.

Ligue MW 11

Rennes take on Bordeaux, Monaco welcome PSG, Lyon travel to Angers, and Lille welcome Lorient. The big game of the weekend is Monaco vs PSG not so much in league position but stature. Monaco sit 7 points behind PSG and a win is likely for the champions who already sit 5 points clear at the top. Monaco need to win to make Ligue 1 interesting.
