Festive seasons revs up!
Premier League MW 10
Crystal Palace vs. Newcastle
11th vs. 15th as Palace take on Newcastle with both teams looking to bounce back from defeats last weekend. Palace are in slightly better form than Newcastle but with Zaha out due to Covid they are missing their talisman. Newcastle lost to Chelsea last weekend and never looked like they wanted to win and fans will be expecting something different in this game.
Brighton vs. Liverpool
16th placed Brighton finally managed a win last weekend as they welcome 2nd placed Liverpool who suffered their first loss at Anfield in all competitions since 2018 to Atalanta midweek. Liverpool will want to take advantage of any lapses at the top of the table and while Brighton can cause problems Liverpool should be able to brush them aside.
Man City vs. Burnley
13th placed Man City lost to Spurs last weekend and qualified for the Champions League Round of 16 during the week as they take on Burnley who sit 17th having won their first game of the season last weekend. City are looking to bounce back but a Sean Dyche Burnley side will be a tough test to break down for City. City should win but Burnley could make it difficult.
Everton vs. Leeds
6th placed Everton returned to winning ways last weekend as they take on 14th placed Leeds who have won none of their last 3. An interesting game between two legendary managers and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
West Brom vs. Sheffield United
19th vs. 20th as the two teams that still remain winless in the league take on each other. West Brom sit 2 points above Sheffield United and have overall been better but that’s not saying much. I expect this game to be a drab affair with both teams quite defensive but one of them should win.
Southampton vs. Man United
5th placed Southampton are in very good form as they take on 10th placed United who have themselves won their last 3 games in all comps. Southampton are a proactive side and I expect United to sit back and counter as usual but this could be an interesting game. The result could go either way.
Arsenal vs. Wolverhampton
12th placed Arsenal drew against Leeds last weekend as they take on 9th placed Wolves who themselves drew the game. Only a point separates the two sides and with both sides being quite defensive this shouldn’t be a high scoring game. This could be a draw.
Leicester vs. Fulham
4th placed Leicester fell short of challenging once again last weekend as they lost to Liverpool. Fulham sit 18th and have only one win to their name but have done better in recent games. Fulham could manage something but odds are in Leicester’s favour.
West Ham vs. Aston Villa
8th placed West Ham take on 7th placed Villa with a point separating the two teams. These teams have been in similar form this season having impressed in games against some big teams and so this should be an interesting watch. Villa will be hoping to bounce back from a poor defeat last weekend.
La Liga MW 11
Valencia take on Atletico Madrid, Sevilla travel to Huesca, Real Madrid welcome Alaves, Barcelona take on Osasuna, and league leaders Real Sociedad take on Villarreal. Some interesting games in La Liga this weekend but the traditional big teams are playing catch up to the rest at the moment. Real, and Barcelona need to start building form.
Serie A MW 9
Inter travel to Sassuolo, Juventus travel to Benevento, Atalanta entertain Verona, Lazio entertain Udinese, Milan welcome Fiorentina, and Napoli welcome Roma on a weekend where Italian football and Football around the world will be respecting Napoli legend Diego Maradona who passed away 2 days ago. The top 8 in Italy is very interesting at the moment with all the big teams involved.
Bundesliga MW 9
Dortmund welcome Koln, Leipzig welcome Arminia, Bayern travel to Stuttgart, Monchengladbach take on Schalke and Leverkusen welcome Hertha Berlin. Tricky fixtures in Germany this weekend which on paper the big teams should win but some of those teams have been inconsistent recently.
Ligue 1 MW 12
Rennes travel to Strasbourg, Marseille take on Nantes, PSG welcome Bordeaux, Lyon welcome Reims, Monaco entertain Nimes, and Lille travel to St.Etienne. Monaco’s win last weekend brought PSG back down to the fighting pack but the teams below PSG need to keep on winning if they want to make this league entertaining.
