A trip to Merseyside!
Chelsea travel to Liverpool to play 9th placed Everton on Saturday night for MW 12 of the Premier League season. Everton had a blistering start to the league as Rodriguez, Calvert-Lewin, and co ran riot in their opening few games. The last 5 games have seen them drop off though and with 1 win 1 draw and 3 losses in that period they now find themselves 4 points from top four.
Carlo Ancelotti brought some good players into the club during this window and while staying in the top four was always a pipe dream their realistic target will be the Europa League. Carlo Ancelotti has an attacking style of football as Chelsea fans will know but he is also Italian and his defensive instincts tend to kick in eventually. There is no doubt that Everton will finish in the top 10 but the consistency is what they will have to get right.
Chelsea go into this game sitting 3rd in the table and after having rested several players against Krasnodar we should be fit and raring to go. There are no tactical things to be addressed by Lampard at the moment given the fact that everything seems to be working well although there is always room for improvement.
Chelsea Team Preview
Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi remain out with hamstring injuries although they should be back towards next week. Mendy will return in goal with Reece James, Zouma, Silva, and Chilwell making up the back four. Kante will also return to the team with Mount, and Havertz ahead of him. Pulisic should start on the right with Werner on the left and Giroud up front. Havertz can play on the left as well which would mean Kovacic comes in but then Pulisic would most likely be dropped which is not likely.
Everton Team Preview
Everton started the season with a 4-3-3 but since they started shipping in goals Ancelotti has reverted to a more conservative 3-4-3 to offer defensive stability. One doesn’t expect Everton to come out guns blazing for this game and so Chelsea will most likely need to be creative in possession. Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, and Rodriguez are the danger players up front which will need to be dealt with efficiently. Allan has been important for Everton in the middle of the park as they look to break up play and counter. Their weak link remain’s Pickford who is not the best goalkeeper and Chelsea will do well to test him with shots. Everton’s bench offers the likes of Sigurdsson and Bernard. Digne will be a big miss for them.
Starting XI Prediction
Chelsea have found it tough in recent years at Goodison Park but when we do manage to beat the Toffees at their home we tend to have a very good Premier League season indeed. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
