Monday night game for Chelsea this week as we welcome West Ham to Stamford Bridge for MW 14. We currently sit 8th in the table and a win could take us up to 3rd with a win. West Ham sit just a point behind us and have only lost 1 game during their last 5. West Ham are in similar form to us and have been great this season. Moyes has managed to tighten up the team while also adding an attacking threat, and it’s credit to him for riding through all the doubts and getting the fans on his side.
Chelsea go into this game with two successive losses, there is now pressure on Chelsea to win this game because if we hadn’t lost the last two we could have been level on points with Liverpool at the moment. Dropping more points would mean losing more ground and we now sit 9 points behind Liverpool and can’t lose any more games. Even putting the Champions aside top we need to return to winning ways to bring ourselves back to the top of the top four race. West Ham are a tricky side and did cause us problems post lockdown, Lampard will know that but with 6 days of rest the players will know that as well and they have to reply with force.
Chelsea Team Preview
Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi are back in training but it is yet to be seen whether they feature in the starting XI or not. Reece James could miss the game against West Ham with a knee injury and even if he is fit I would still play Azpilicueta to avoid risk. Mendy to start in goal, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Silva, and Chilwell as the backline. Kante, Mount, and Havertz as the midfield with Pulisic, Werner, and Hudson-Odoi up front. I would drop both Giroud, and Tammy just to give Werner a chance up front to see how he does, if we need a goal then Giroud and Tammy are better than most. Ziyech should also be on the bench to unlock the game if need be while Hudson-Odoi should pose a threat from the right. Lampard can now field 9 subs as well although we can only select 3 and not 5 as of now. It’s a strong team and it should do the job.
West Ham Team Preview
Moyes has created a solid team with plenty of flair players at West Ham this season. Fabianski is a more than a good goalkeeper while Coufal has added a threat from the left hand side. Ogbonna, and Diop have formed a good partnership in defence while Cresswell has been a main stay on the left for many years. Rice and Soucek have formed a good wall in front of the defence with Rice a creative outlet as well while Soucek is a great aerial threat similar to Fellaini at Everton. Bowen was a smart acquisition last January and he has provided the flair alongside Fornals who has also found form in recent weeks. Benrahma has started the last few games and his skill on the ball and driving runs are 2nd to none and should be a tricky player for Chelsea to deal with. Haller has started up front for the last few games and has been decent although I really hope Antonio isn’t fit to play against Chelsea. It’s a strong team and way better than some of the teams West Ham have fielded in the past. Lanzini etc can all pose a threat from the bench as well.
Starting XI Prediction
It’s a big game a tricky game in the current context and then you add the fact that it’s a London Derby it get’s more intense. It is a bummer that London has been knocked down the Covid tiers and so fans can’t come to the stadium again. Chelsea need to bounce back, the players need to bounce back and I believe they will, there are points to prove and Chelsea will be up for it. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
