Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals 

Brentford 1 vs. 0 Newcastle

Josh Dasilva scored the only goal of the game in the 66th minute as Brentford beat Newcastle to progress to their first major semi-final in their history. Newcastle continued their inconsistent form and Steve Bruce’s side failed to beat the Championship team. 

Arsenal 1 vs. 4 Man City

Jesus scored in the 3rd minute to give City the lead which deflated Arsenal’s hopes at an early stage. Lacazette did bring Arsenal back into the game after he scored in the 31st minute and the Gunners managed to keep themselves in the game till half time. Mahrez then scored a free kick in the 54th minute after a very poor keeping error from Runnarsson. Foden and Laporte added the rest in the 2nd half as City went on to win comfortably. Arsenal suffer yet another blow as they sit in turmoil at the moment. 

Stoke City 1 vs. 3 Tottenham

Bale scored in the 22nd minute to give Tottenham the lead. Thompson managed to equalise for Stoke in the 53rd minute but Tottenham’s quality was greater as Davies and Kane scored late on to seal the win for Mourinho and co. They head on to the semi-final as Mourinho looks to win a trophy at Spurs while Stoke’s journey comes to an end. 

Everton 0 vs. 2 Man United

Everton managed to have a close game with United but United’s offensive quality stood out as Cavani and Martial got very late goals to seal the win for Ole. United reach yet another semi-final although it will be interesting to see whether they reach a final while Everton do well but fail to progress. 

La Liga MW 15

Sevilla beat Valencia 0-1, Atletico beat Real Sociedad 0-2, Barcelona beat Valladolid 0-3, and Real Madrid beat Granada 2-0. Ateltico and Real sit top of the table level on points but Atletico have 2 games in hand. Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Barcelona make up the top 5. Sevilla sit 6th while Valencia sit 14th, in the table. Barcelona do well to get the win and move within 2 of Real Sociedad and with 2 games in hand over the team they can progress further. Atletico sit in a very good position and can increase their lead if they win their games in hand. 

Serie MW 14

Fiorentina beat Juventus 0-3, Inter beat Verona 1-2, Atalanta drew with Bologna 2-2, Milan beat Lazio 3-2, Napoli drew with Torino 1-1, and Roma beat Cagliari 3-2. Milan stay a point clear of Inter at the top of the table while Roma sit 3rd but 6 points behind Inter. Sassuolo, and Napoli make up the top 5 with Juventus 6th and 10 points behind Milan, with a game in hand. Atalanta are 7th, and Lazio are 8th in the table. The Milanese teams make big strides to make it a 2 horse race for now while AC Milan are crowned Christmas champions. 

Ligue MW 17

Rennes beat Metz 1-0, Lyon beat Nantes 3-0, Monaco drew with St.Etienne 2-2, Lille beat Montpellier 2-3, PSG beat Strasbourg 4-0, and Angers beat Marseille 2-1. Lyon and Lille sit top of the table level on points and a point ahead of PSG. Rennes, and Marseille make up the top 5 with Monaco sitting 6th. PSG sacked Tuchel on Thursday as they look to appoint a new manager and one that can actually win PSG the Champions League and return them to winning ways in the league as well. Although Tuchel was not far off in both regards and probably was unjustly sacked, that also on Christmas Eve.
