End the year on a high!
Chelsea play their final game of 2020 on Monday night as we take on an Aston Villa side that sit 7th in the table and level on points with us. Villa have been in great form this season, they started the season brilliantly but teetered off a bit before finding form once again in recent weeks. They have won 3 of their last 4 games in the league and are flying high as they look at taking a place in Europe this season. Last season’s relegation woes are well behind Dean Smith and his team as defensive solidity and attacking talent has really improved the squad.
Chelsea have lost 3 of the last 4 games in the league with the last one against Arsenal on Boxing Day particularly disturbing. The manner in which Chelsea lost and the way in which we played for 75 minute of the game was disgraceful to say the least. The lineup was great but Chelsea lacked any urgency or drive to win the game and that led to poor performances from several player on the pitch. We now sit 8th in the table but luckily other teams haven’t performed great either and so a win can take Chelsea back to 3rd if results go our way. Chelsea’s players, fans and the club need a good run of form because there is talent there and we have seen it, Lampard is trusted by several people and there is nothing lost yet, and by a long shot.
Chelsea Team Preview
Mendy should start in goal but we should see some rotations in the team having just played on Saturday. I expect Azpilicueta to start on the right to give Reece James a rest while Chilwell should keep his place on the left although Emerson could start. Kante should keep his place in the team while Gilmour and Havertz should come in to the no 8 roles. The front line has been the talking point for several games now and I would personally not drop Werner and would play him as the striker. Pulisic, and Hudson-Odoi should start as the wingers after two good performances against Arsenal. There are several players that could of course start but this is the team I think should start. Werner deserves a chance to start as the striker up top and we can see how that pans out.
Aston Villa Team Preview
Martinez should start in goal for Villa with the goalkeeper in great form. Cash, Hause, Ming, and Targett should start as the defensive contingent after playing well in recent games. The stability this season has been great for the team at back. Luiz and McGinn have done well as the defensive midfield pairing while injuries up front has meant that Traore has done well having returned the Premier League. Grealish has been great this season while El Ghazi is always a threat. Ollie Watkins has done well this season as well having joined form Brentford in the summer. A strong team that can cause plenty of problems and Chelsea will have to be up it.
Starting XI Prediction
Villa, Man City and Leicester are Chelsea’s next 3 fixtures in the league. The performance was abysmal against Arsenal and the players and Lampard have to patch in a good run of form in the coming weeks to climb back up the table. The comeback starts against Villa, COME ON CHELSEA!!!
