New Year, new fortunes? First games of 2021.
Premier League MW 17
Everton vs. West Ham
Everton sit 4th having not played during the week due to Man City having several cases of Covid. West Ham drew during the week and sit 10th in the table. Everton can go within a point of Liverpool if they win their game and can go above them if they win their game in hand so Ancelotti will be looking to beat the Hammers. Moyes is winless in his last 4 games for the Hammers and they need a win to start climbing up the table once again. An interesting fixture to begin the New Year.
Man United vs. Aston Villa
2nd placed United sit 3 points behind Liverpool and have a game in hand as they take on 5th placed Villa. Villa similar to United have been on an unbeaten run of form and it will be a good game between two in form sides. The result could go either way although Villa have had more time to recover and rest.
Tottenham vs. Leeds
Tottenham sit 7th in the table having not played during the week due to Fulham’s covid cases. They take on Leeds who thrashed West Brom during the week and sit 11th in the table 3 points behind Tottenham. Spurs should be rested up for the game but are winless in their last 3 and so need 3 points from somewhere to stop the slide. Leeds will be tough opposition and this will be a game to watch.
Crystal Palace vs. Sheffield United
15th placed Palace haven’t won a game for some time as they take on bottom of the table Sheffield United who haven’t won a game at all this season. If there was a team for Palace to regain form against it would be Sheffield United who have become more solid at the back in recent weeks but still narrowly manage to lose games. Sheffield United need to start winning as they approach the halfway point not having had a single win this season.
Brighton vs. Wolverhampton
17th placed Brighton take on 12th placed Wolves with Brighton struggling to get a win despite playing some good football. The Seagulls tend to miss the chances they create and always have a mistake in them that allows the other team to score. Wolves have only 1 win in 5 and are in some poor form themselves so 3 points either way would do the teams a world of good.
West Brom vs. Arsenal
19th placed West Brom are alternating between a draw and a loss as they take on 13th placed Arsenal who now have 2 wins in a row under their belt. On paper this should be a win for the Gunners but West Brom will want to bounce back from their humiliating loss to Leeds and a draw or more is possible against this Arsenal team.
Burnley vs. Fulham
16th placed Burnley take on 18th placed Fulham as the two teams try to climb up the table. Burnley have won 3 of their last 5 and only lost 1 of those 5 games while Fulham have drawn their last 4 games. Fulham did miss a game due to Covid and it will be seen who they can field in their team and whether they can play the game or not.
Newcastle vs. Leicester
14th placed Newcastle take on 3rd placed Leicester with Newcastle recently having kept a clean sheet against Liverpool in the league. Leicester have drawn their last 2 games and would like to return to winning ways themselves. Leicester should win this game but Newcastle will be pumped after their good game against Liverpool.
Southampton vs. Liverpool
9th placed Southampton take on league leaders Liverpool with Liverpool struggling to win games at the moment. Southampton themselves have not won a game for 4 MW’s now, so they are desperate for 3 points. Liverpool could be pushed out of the top spot if results don’t go their way and so this is going to be a big game for both teams involved.
La Liga MW 17
Sevilla travel to Real Betis, Real Madrid take on Celta Vigo, Atletico Madrid travel to Alaves, Real Sociedad take on Osasuna, Barcelona travel to Huesca, and Valencia welcome Cadiz. Atletico sit 2 points clear at the top of La Liga with 2 games in hand while Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and Sevilla make up the top four. Barcelona sit 6th in the table as they look to climb out from their malaise.
Serie A MW 15
Inter welcome Crotone, Roma welcome Sampdoria, Atalanta take on Sassuolo, Lazio travel to Genoa, Napoli take on Cagliari, Milan travel to Benevento, and Juventus welcome Udinese. Serie A returns after a mini break, as each team will have different goals for the new year. Milan are still leading the pack but the rest are truly behind them although Inter are the ones can really stake a claim at the moment while the rest falter. Juventus need something to kick start their season other than Ronaldo while the rest look at finishing in the top 4.
Bundesliga MW 14
Monchengladbach travel to Arminia, Leverkusen travel to Frankfurt, Schalke travel to Hertha Berlin, Leipzig take on Stuggart, Dortmund welcome Wolfsburg, while Bayern take on Mainz. Bayern lead the Bundesliga by 2 points while Leverkusen, Leipzig, and Wolfsburg make up the top four. Dortmund sit 5th 8 points behind Bayern as they look to have a better 2021 than 2020.
