London Derby with Fulham in form!
Chelsea take on Fulham who sit 18th in the table having drawn their last 5 games in a row with results against Leicester, Southampton, Liverpool and Spurs over the last few weeks. Parker has got his team playing some solid football at the back and defensively they have massively improved after their poor start to the season. Fulham sit just 2 points from safety at the moment and have that incentive to carry out this positive form.
Talking about incentive Chelsea have plenty of that as we sit 9th in the table 10 points from the top and a dire need to return to winning ways starting now. The 2 weeks since the City game have allowed Lampard to work with the squad and the tactical side of things and it would have allowed the players to regroup and refocus. Morecambe was more of a freebie and it allowed some of our struggling players to return to scoring form and hopefully they can carry it into the league now. With 1 win in our last 5 Chelsea need to put this poor form to bed and patch together a strong winning run of games. It’s actually a good thing that Fulham are in good form and have more points in their last 5 than us because it allows us to head into this game knowing that we need to fight for it.
Chelsea Team Preview
Lampard reported a clean bill of health but Kante will miss the game due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Mendy should start in goal with Azpilicueta, Zouma, Silva and Chilwell in defence. Reece James could start but with a game against Leicester close by he might be rested having just come back from his injury. A couple of other players could come in like Rudiger but I think we need to field our strongest team possible. Gilmour should come in at CDM while Havertz and Mount play as the attacking 8’s. Hudson-Odoi has been playing well and I would start him on right with Ziyech on the left and Tammy up front. Werner and Pulisic could start but with the game against Leicester close by I think they will feature from the bench. A strong lineup and hopefully one that is creative enough to break down Fulham’s low block. The likes of Ziyech, Havertz, and Hudson-Odoi should provide that edge to get us 3 points.
Fulham Team Preview
Fulham played during the week against Spurs and so they aren’t as fresh as Chelsea going into this game. Cairney is out due to injury while RLC will miss the game since he is on loan from Chelsea. Mitrovic might be back in contention for this game though. Fulham have switched to a 3 at the back which has provided that defensive solidity to their team, Areola has been a good acquisition in goal for them. Adarabaiyo, Andersen and Aina have formed the back 3 with Aina being another ex Chelsea player. Robinson, Anguissa, Reed, Reid, and Tete have provided solidity in the midfield and width via the full backs while Lookman, and Cavaleiro should start up front for Fulham. Lookman is especially pacy and creative while Cavaleiro is more physical. Fulham’s team will be setup to frustrate Chelsea and counter.
Starting XI Prediction
This might not be the most intense London Derby but it is a derby none the less and I expect Chelsea to show up fighting and return to winning ways. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
