Weekend Football Preview

Big games ahead!

Premier League MW 19

Wolverhampton vs. West Brom

Wolves sit 14th in the league as they take on West Brom who are 19th in the league, both teams have had similar form in their last 5 games and both need a win. Wolves have the more talented starting XI but West Brom will be setup to frustrate and so this could be a game of patience for both teams.

West Ham vs. Burnley

10th placed West Ham take on 16th placed Burnley with West Ham looking to progress up the table. Burnley have found their rough edge once again and they physicality has been getting them results recently. The result could go either way.

Leeds vs. Brighton

12th placed Leeds suffered a poor loss to Crawley last weekend in the FA Cup as they look to bounce back against Brighton who sit 17th and are in desperate need of a win. Two teams that like to play attacking football this should be a good game to watch.

Leicester vs. Southampton

4th placed Leicester take on 7th placed Southampton with 3 points in between them. Both teams are in good form but Southampton have only won 1 of their last 5. Two good managers, two good teams but only one can win as they look to keep within touching distance of the top four. This could be a draw but either team can win.

Sheffield United vs. Tottenham

Sheffield United finally managed a win during the week as they take on Tottenham who sit 6th in the table with 1 win out of 5 themselves. Tottenham are in a poor run of form and can’t seem to get out of it as they seem to do well for 45 minutes but switch off in the 2nd half. The question for Sheffield will be whether they can carry on from the win against Newcastle. An interesting game.

Liverpool vs. Man United

The game of the weekend as 2nd take on 1st, with two historic rivals finally playing a meaningful game at the top of the league after several years. Liverpool can return to the top on goal difference if they continue their unbeaten run at home while United can go 6 points clear of their rivals and end Klopp’s unbeaten run at Anfield. The pressure is now on United to stay top and everyone will have eyes on them and whether they can do what other teams haven’t this season and stay top. A blockbuster of a game on Sunday.

Man City vs. Crystal Palace

3rd placed City can go 2nd with a win if results go their way as they take on Palace who sit 13th in the table. This should be a City win as they look good at grinding out results now and they will want to get closer to the top 2. Palace always have a chance but I can’t see them getting a point.

Arsenal vs. Newcastle

Arsenal sit 11th as they take on 15th placed Newcastle who need a win after some very poor form. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 4 but were held to a goalless draw against Palace and Newcastle will be hoping to do the same. A game that can go either way.

La Liga MW 19

Sevilla travel to Alaves, Villarreal take on Granada, Valencia take on Osasuna, and Atletico travel to Eibar. A chance for teams with games in hand to increase their leads or make up ground on the teams around them. Atletico could go 7 points clear at the top of the table with a win and still have 1 more game in hand to play.

Serie MW 18

Lazio take on Roma, Napoli entertain Fiorentina, Atalanta take on Genoa, Inter welcome Juventus, and Milan travel to Cagliari. Milan can increase their lead at the top if they win and results go their way around them with some big teams playing each other in Italy this weekend.

Bundesliga MW 16

Leverkusen travel to Union Berlin, Dortmund entertain Mainz, Leipzig travel to Wolfsburg, Monchengladbach travel to Stuttgart, Bayern take on Freiburg, and Schalke travel to Frankfurt. Bayern are 2 points clear at the top but most of the teams that should be winning these games should be getting 3 points in Germany this weekend. Bayern did get knocked out of the DFB Pokal during the week though in poor fashion.

Ligue MW 20

Monaco travel to Montpellier, Marseille take on Nimes, PSG travel to Angers with Pochettino having already won his first trophy at the club, Lille entertain Reims, and Lyon take on Metz. Lyon lead by a point and other than the Monaco game this should be a straight forward weekend in France this weekend with normal wins.
