Weekend Football Review

Didn’t match the hype!

Premier League MW 19

Wolverhampton 2 vs. 3 West Brom

Pereira scored in the 8th minute via a penalty to give West Brom the lead. Silva and Boly then scored before half time to put Wolves in the lead heading into the 2nd half. Ajayi equalised for West Brom in the 52nd minute and Pereira got the winner in the 56th minute via another penalty. Wolves remain 14th in the table while West Brom remain 19th 5 points from safety. Big win for West Brom as Wolves continue their poor form.

West Ham 1 vs. 0 Burnley

Antonio scored in the 9th minute as the only goal of the game was enough for West Ham to get a win over Burnley. West Ham move up to 9th in the table while Burnley drop down to 17th in the table 4 points above the relegation zone.

Leeds 0 vs. 1 Brighton

Maupay scored in the 17th minute to give Brighton the lead and the Seagulls held on to it as they won their first game in some while. Leeds continue their poor run of form in recent weeks with yet another loss. Brighton move into 16th 5 points above the relegation zone while Leeds remain 12th in the table.

Leicester 2 vs. 0 Southampton

Maddison scored in the 1st half while Barnes added a 2nd with the final minute of the game as Leicester got 3 points against an inform Southampton side. Leicester climb up to 3rd in the table 2 points behind leaders United. Southampton drop down to 8th on goal difference but nothing to panic about.

Sheffield United 1 vs. 3 Tottenham

Aurier and Kane scored in the 1st half to give Tottenham a good lead. McGoldrick got one back for Sheffield United in the 59th minute but Ndombele scored a worldie to seal the game in the 62nd minute. Tottenham continue a return to form as they move into 5th, 4 points from the top of the table. Sheffield United remain bottom of the table but Tottenham aren’t their real opponents, still they sit 11 points from safety.

Liverpool 0 vs. 0 Man United

After all the hype that United could go 6 points clear or Liverpool could go level on points and this would be a massive game, the result was a boring goalless draw. Two teams that never really wanted to get the win and only ever got a close to winning it. Liverpool drop down to 4th in the table 3 points from the top while United remain top of the table but only 2 points ahead of City who sit 2nd with a game in hand. Liverpool continue their unbeaten run at Anfield but go 3 games without scoring a goal while United fail to beat another top 6 rival.

Man City 4 vs. 0 Crystal Palace

Stones got 2 goals, Gundogan got one, and Sterling got another as City steamrolled Palace. City are looking like the team to beat with Stones and Dias forming a positive partnership at the back and players in front hitting form. City move into 2nd in the table 2 points behind United with a game in hand while Palace remain 13th in the table with the loss.

Arsenal 3 vs. 0 Newcastle

Aubameyang seems to be heading back to goal scoring form as he got 2 against Newcastle and Saka added a 3rd in a good win for the Gunners. Arsenal move into 10th as they make it 5 games unbeaten having won 4 of those while Newcastle remain 15th in the table but continue their winless run. Arteta conducting a mini renaissance of form at Arsenal let’s see how long it can go. Pressure is piling on Steve Bruce though.

Serie MW 18

Lazio beat Roma 3-0 in the Rome Derby, Napoli put 6 past Fiorentina in a massive win, Atalanta drew with Genoa in a goalless draw, Inter beat Juventus 2-0 in a massive win for the Milanese side while Milan beat Cagliari 0-2. Milan remain 3 points above Inter at the top of the table while Napoli and Roma make up the top 4. Juventus are struggling as they sit 10 points behind Milan and 5th in the table 8th placed Sassuolo only 3 points behind them. Juventus do have a game in hand along with some other teams but plenty to improve on. Serie A is looking entertaining as ever.

Bundesliga MW 16

Union Berlin beat Leverkusen 1-0, Dortmund drew with Mainz 1-1, Leipzig drew with Wolfsburg 2-2, Monchengladbach drew with Stuttgart 2-2, Bayern beat Freiburg 2-1, and Frankfurt beat Schalke 3-1 with Jovic returning to the Germans and getting 2 goals in his first game. A big weekend for Bayern as they go 4 points clear at the top with everyone around them dropping points. Leipzig, Leverkusen, and Dortmund make up the top four. Monchengladbach sit 8th while Schalke go back to 18th. Bayern beginning to extend their dominance in the league as the rest need to pick up.

Ligue MW 20

Monaco beat Montpellier 2-3, Nimes beat Marseille 1-2, PSG beat Angers 0-1, Lille beat Reims 2-1, and Metz beat Lyon 0-1. PSG return to the top of the table on goal difference with Lille behind them. Lyon sit 3rd while Monaco complete the top four. Marseille sit 6th in the table. Ligue 1 is slightly more entertaining than usual at the moment but the teams around PSG need to continue to get points as the Parisiens look to head back into form.
