Game two under Tuchel!
15th placed Burnley are in great form as they visit Stamford Bridge with Chelsea having 1 win in our last 5 games. Burnley started the season poorly but 3 wins in their last 5 has meant that they have pushed themselves into the middle of the table and are comfortable at the moment. Dyche has once again showed his defensive capabilities and their last 2 wins have come against Liverpool at Anfield and Villa at Turf Moor. For all intents and purposes Burnley have to be taken seriously.
Chelsea’s first game under Tuchel against Wolves gave us some glimpses of what to expect. While the lineup was purely on a hunch rather than actually picking who deserved to play, what happened on the pitch could be attributed to Tuchel. The high press, the recoveries the sheer amount of possession, it was all aspects that Tuchel wants to grind into the team but it is very much at its infancy. Tuchel has now had 3 practice sessions since Wolves and the photos have shown some exciting things especially the players training with small balls presumably for entertainment but also to work on their first touch and control. Tuchel has also given quite a few interviews over the last few days and I will write more on them in separate blog post. For now I can say that Tuchel is a football nerd and that’s not a bad thing. It’s what most fans are in the current form of the sport, so detailed, always learning and he seems to know how to articulate his ideas to people around him. The press conferences have got several fans on board with Tuchel and they are excited to see what happens in the coming weeks and months.
Chelsea Team Preview
Chelsea enter this game with Kante back in contention after having trained recently. I think Chelsea will stick with a 3 at the back for now but I would like to see a 4-2-3-1. Mendy in goal with Reece James, Zouma, Silva, and Chilwell making up the back four. Kante and Mount in the midfield with Hudson-Odoi, Havertz, and Ziyech starting behind Werner. The thing with Tuchel is that he likes to rotate and switch formations so it’s going to be anyone’s guess what he decides to do in this match. There are several options though you can start Tammy and Timo up front and keep Hudson-Odoi as a wing back as well. Mount though should add more energy in the midfield while Hudson-Odoi deserves to keep his place for now.
Burnley Team Preview
Burnley are playing a very rigid 4-4-2 at the moment and we all know what they bring on the pitch. Solid at the back with the likes of Pope, Mee and Tarkowski, while Lowton and Taylor add some threat from the the full back positions. McNeil is always a crafty winger while Brady has also returned to some sort of form. Westwood and Brownhill add some solidity in the midfield while Barnes and Wood are the battering rams up front. Rodriguez might start if Barnes is still injured. It’s very much a team built to use set pieces and counters to cause problems. A very physical team.
Starting XI Prediction
Chelsea do need to start racking up some wins and Chelsea fans in general are excited to see what Tuchel brings to this team. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
