Weekend Football Review

City’s to lose.

Premier League MW 23

Aston Villa 1 vs. 0 Arsenal

Watkins scored in the 2nd minute and Villa held on for the win as Arsenal had no reply. Villa remain 9th with the win with 2 games in hand while Arsenal drop into 11th with the loss. That’s 3 games without a win for Arteta as some problems begin to arise once again.

Burnley 1 vs. 1 Brighton

Dunk scored in the 36th minute, but Gudmundsson equalised in the 53rd minute for Burnley. Neither team could get the win though and they settled for the point. Burnley remain 17th in the table 8 points above the relegation zone while Brighton continue their unbeaten run with a draw. Two teams that are comfortable at the moment.

Newcastle 3 vs. 2 Southampton

Willock scored in the 16th minute to give Newcastle the lead while Almiron made it 2 10 minutes later. Minamino got one back for Southampton in the 30th minute, but Almiron got a 3rd for Newcastle right before half time. Ward-Prowse brought Southampton back into the game in the 48th minute and Hendrick was sent off for Newcastle in the 49th minute but Newcastle held on and Southampton could not break them down. Newcastle remain 16th with the win while Southampton are 12th and continue their losing streak as they struggle.

Fulham 0 vs. 0 West Ham

This wasn’t the fieriest of London Derby’s but Fulham should have won the game as they were the better team over 90 minutes. Fulham had several chances to get 3 points but they failed to finish any of them. West Ham were not great and Soucek was sent off in the 97th minute for a nonsensical reason. The red card has since been rescinded and he can continue playing. Fulham remain 17th and 8 points from safety while West Ham drop into 6th on goal difference.

Man United 3 vs. 3 Everton

This was one of the better games this weekend as Everton came back to draw against United. Cavani and Fernandes scored in the 1st half to give United a comfortable lead with the game looking done and dusted. Ancelotti must have given the Everton players a boost of sorts at half time because Doucoure and Rodriguez scored early to make it 2-2 within 52 minutes. McTominay gave United the lead in the 70th minute and it looked like the game was done but Calvert-Lewin scored an equaliser in the 95th minute to get a point for Everton. United remain 2nd but now 5 points behind City while Everton remain 7th in the table.

Tottenham 2 vs. 0 West Brom

After a dismal first half with neither team taking advantage Kane and Son scored within 4 minutes of each other in the 2nd half to seal a win for Tottenham. Tottenham remain 8th in the table ending a 3 game losing run while West Brom remain 19th in the table.

Wolverhampton 0 vs. 0 Leicester

A goalless draw between the two teams left them adrift of their surrounding teams. Wolves remain 14th in the table while Leicester remain 3rd in the table.

Liverpool 1 vs. 4 Man City

The 1st half in this game saw Gundogan missed a penalty but other than that the scoreline remained goalless. The 2nd half though was a different story. Gundogan gave City the lead in the 49th minute, Salah then equalised from the spot in the 63rd minute after artistically falling down. Gundogan restored the lead for City in the 73rd minute and Sterling made it 3 in the 76th minute after a blunder by Alisson. Foden then scored a brilliant goal in the 83rd minute to seal a big win for City. Liverpool remain 4th in the table a point above 5th and 10 points from City. City go 5 clear at the top with a game in hand.

Leeds 2 vs. 0 Crystal Palace

Harrison scored in the 3rd minute and Bamford scored in the 52nd minute as Leeds got a comfortable win against Palace. Leeds jump into 10th with the win while Palace remain 13th in the table with the loss.

La Liga MW 22

Real Madrid beat Huesca 1-2, Villarreal drew with Elche 2-2, Sevilla beat Getafe 3-0, Real Sociedad beat Cadiz 4-1, Barcelona beat Betis 2-3, and Atletico drew with Celta Vigo 2-2. Atletico remain 8 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand over Barcelona and Real Madrid. Those two teams sit 2nd and 3rd with Sevilla 4th. Villarreal and Real Sociedad sit 5th and 6th in the table. Still advantage Atletico for now but there is a glimmer of hope for the teams behind them.

Serie MW 21

Inter beat Fiorentina 0-2, Atalanta drew with Torino 3-3, Juventus beat Roma 2-0, Genoa beat Napoli 2-1, Milan beat Crotone 4-0, and Lazio beat Cagliari 1-0. Milan remain 2 points clear at the top of the table with Inter right behind them. Juventus have a game in hand as they sit 3rd while Roma sit 4th. Lazio, Napoli, and Atalanta sit 5th, 6th, and 7th in the table. The race is tight at the moment with both Milan and Inter staying consistent for now.

Bundesliga MW 20

Bayern beat Hertha Berlin 0-1, Freiburg beat Dortmund 2-1, Leipzig beat Schalke 0-3, Leverkusen beat Stuttgart 5-2, Koln beat Monchengladbach 1-2, and Frankfurt beat Hoffenheim 1-3. Bayern remain 7 points clear at the top of the table, while Leipzig, Wolfsburg, and Frankfurt make up the top four. Leverkusen, Dortmund, and Monchengladbach sit 5th, 6th, and 7th in the table. Dormtund find themselves 4 points from the top four as they look to regain some sort of form.

Ligue MW 24

Lyon beat Strasbourg 3-0, Monaco beat Nimes 3-4, Lille beat Nantes 0-2, and PSG beat Marseille 0-2. Lille sit 2 points clear of Lyon at the top of the table while PSG sit 3rd. Monaco are 4th 3 points behind PSG. Ligue 1 is entertaining at the moment with PSG inconsistency and other’s consistency making the title race interesting.
