Chelsea vs. Man United MW 26 Preview

Another big game for the team!

After the heroics in Bucharest against Atletico Madrid Chelsea now go into the Premier League for MW 26 against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. After early season issues Ole and United have put themselves in 2nd place 6 points ahead of 5th placed Chelsea. United have not lost an away game this season and that record has helped them to the position they are at today. United have also scored the most goals in the league with 53 but they have conceded the most goals in the top 5 as well. United’s last loss came against Sheffield United and they have since drawn 3 and won 2.

The reverse fixture at Old Trafford came at a time when Chelsea were doing well under Lampard. We were in the top 3 at the time and both teams generally took a cautious approach. The game ended up being a 0-0 draw. This time there is more pressure on Chelsea and for many reasons it’s a must win game. A win would take Tuchel and team to within 3 points of United and also put us into the top 4. With Liverpool up next it would also put us in a better position going into the game against the Champions. What worked so well against Atletico and what has been so good under Tuchel has been our press. Our defensive work rate has really been our shining factor in recent weeks but again we need to start clicking up front. It was a brilliant goal by Giroud in the Champions League but against such a low block we failed to create several more chances. I have no doubt we will start scoring goals but it would be great if we could start scoring them in this game, while obviously keeping our solidity at the back.

Chelsea Team Preview

Chelsea will be without Thiago Silva who is not yet fit for this game but everyone else is available. Mendy should start in goal with Azpilicueta, Christensen, and Rudiger continuing as the back 3. Reece James should come in to handle the likes of Rashford on the right while Chilwell should come in instead of Alonso for Dan James on the left. Kante and Kovacic should continue in the midfield. Jorginho could start but I don’t think he will play 2 games in a row. Tuchel could continue with Mount, Werner, and Giroud as the front three, but we might see Havertz start as the striker. Pulisic, Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi, Tammy, are all options that Tuchel can go with and really its anyone’s guess how we set up. Tuchel might even switch formations, or play Mount alongside Kovacic to bring in another progressive midfielder. Chelsea have several options but either way it should be a solid team. Again the press and defensive work rate continues but it will be about creating and taking chances up front. Chelsea could especially find joy aerially or via set pieces.

Man United Team Preview

Manchester United will be without Pogba, McTominay, maybe Van de Beek, and Cavani. We already know how United will setup and how Ole will play. The counter attack suits them well, and Rashford, Martial, Dan James, and Bruno will all be the threat up front. Matic and Fred will provide that defensive solidity while Shaw has also been creative. Maguire, and Lindelof are the ones that the striker will have to take an advantage of. De Gea has also been back to his best in recent weeks but is always capable of a mistake. United will be happy to get a point from this game and will lean on picking Chelsea off on the counter. Cavani, etc might be on the bench while Greenwood, and Diallo are also available.

Chelsea need to carry that Atletico momentum into this game with a little more goals by our forward players. It’s a must win game for Tuchel and co just because it allows us to put ourselves into a good position going into the next few games. United will be ready to park their bus but we need to bring our shooting boots to blast those buses away. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
