The big games keep coming!
Chelsea take on 5th placed Everton on Monday night for a big top four clash. Everton sit a point behind Chelsea with a game in hand and a win would take them into the top four. Everton have had a really good season up till now. They started brilliantly and then dropped off during the winer. Over the last 3 games though they have managed to get some important results especially the win against Liverpool at Anfield. That along with the fact that teams ahead of them dropped off means that they are right back in the thick of things.
Chelsea go into this game sitting 4th in the table and a win would take them within 3 points of Leicester in 3rd. It would also create a 4 point gap between Chelsea and Everton so it is a big six pointer. Chelsea got a big win at Anfield in the last game and the whole team performed brilliantly. Chelsea arguably should have got a couple more goals and actually did score 2. The only area to improve remains the attack where there was improvement against Liverpool but some last passes were still off. The difference between Everton and Liverpool is that Everton don’t mind sitting back and countering and Ancelotti does not mind defending. Everton are not going to keep a high line and so Chelsea will need to be more creative in the final 3rd.
Chelsea Team Preview
Mendy should remain in goal for this game and the defence should stay the same because at the moment consistency is key and Chelsea’s next game is on Saturday. Hudson-Odoi should come back for this game at right wing back with Chilwell keeping his place on the left. Reece James might be rested for this game but he could start given Richarlison’s threat. Jorginho, and Kovacic should make up the midfield with Havertz, Werner, and Mount as the front three. Pulisic could start, and Ziyech is also there but I think if they play they will come in for Werner, or Mount. I really think Havertz will start this game. The creativity and quick passing will be key and the German can provide that up front along with a danger from set pieces. This game will be about creating chances and finishing them off.
Everton Team Preview
I expect Everton to set up with a back 5 for this game. Digne, Godfrey, Keane, Holgate, and Coleman make up a solid back 3 along with wing backs for Ancelotti. Gomes, should start in the midfield alongside Sigurdsson, and Allan. While I expect Richarlison, and Calvert-Lewin to provide the threat up front. Richarlison has been in top form in recent weeks having scored in 4 successive games. Sigurdsson, and Calvert-Lewin will look to take advantage form any set piece along with Digne. It is yet to be seen whether Rodriguez will feature but he seems to be injured.
Starting XI Prediction
This game will mark almost a year since the last time that Stamford Bridge was packed for a football game. That game was also against Everton and that game ended 4-0 with Chelsea putting in a top performance. This team has more than enough quality to do the same. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
