A trip to Elland Road!
Chelsea travel to play Leeds for MW 28 of the Premier League season. Leeds sit 11th in the table having won 1 of their last 5 games. They are firmly in the fight for the mid table places and have a game in hand. With Leeds it’s an all out style of play they always go for the win and won’t settle for a draw. 11 wins and 14 defeats shows that its an either or situation. We all know that Leeds under Bielsa have their high pressing style of play and will give their all in this game.
Chelsea go into this game sitting 4th in the table. We beat Everton on Monday which allowed us to create a gap between us and the toffees. West Ham played after us and cut the gap to 4th to 2 points as they sit right behind us. We sit 3 points behind Leicester and a win would take us into 3rd at least until Leicester played. The game against Everton could have easily been our first game under Tuchel where we scored 3 or more goals. Werner missed some chances though as they game opened up once Everton were 2 goals down. With Leeds we will face a team that play a high line and like to press high up the pitch. We should find joy behind them similar to our game against Liverpool. It is our final Premier League game before the international break and it would be great to end go into the break with a win in the league.
Chelsea Team Preview
Tuchel said that Chelsea will be without Silva who suffered a recurrence in his injury while Tammy also remains out with his ankle injury as he isn’t comfortable yet. Mendy will remain in goal with Azplicueta, Christensen, and Rudiger in the back three. I expect Reece James and Chilwell to start as the wing backs with Chilwell being preferred over Alonso due to the high intensity in Leeds game. Kovacic, and Kante should start as the midfield pivot for similar reasons. Mount, Werner, and Havertz should start up front. I wouldn’t be surprised if Werner or Havertz are rested for Pulisic, or Hudson-Odoi to add more pace and ability to break the line. Many options especially in attack and many options from the bench as usual.
Leeds United Preview
Leeds will play their 4-1-4-1 formation. Dallas, and Ayling provide a threat from their full back position while the likes of Kalvin Phillips provide creativity from the midfield. Costa, and Raphinha are the creative outlets and Raphinha in particular has been causing problems with his left foot. Bamford has done a good job up front for Leeds this season and will be a threat as well. Harrison, Alioski, and Rodrigo provide a threat from the bench. We can expect a high intensity and quick paced game from Leeds similar to the reverse fixture.
Starting XI Prediction
It’s just another step for Chelsea this season. An early kick off and a positive result would put pressure on the teams around us. Leeds will be tricky but Chelsea can do this. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
