Chelsea vs. West Brom MW 30 Preview

Final stretch!

After what has been a difficult 14 days without club football, we are back for the final stretch of the season. On Saturday begins the final 2 months of the season as Chelsea look to achieve various targets in 3 competitions. First up is a visit from West Brom in the Premier League. West Brom sit 19th in the table 10 points from safety and 8 points behind Fulham. It does look like West Brom will be relegated along with Sheffield United this season. They have won only 1 of their last 5 games as they travel to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea return to league football sitting 4th in the table. West Ham sit 5th and 2 points behind us while Spurs are only 3 points behind us in 6th. We sit 5 points behind Leicester and with the Foxes playing Man City later on there is a great chance for Tuchel and team to cut that gap to 2 points. It was a blistering start to life at Chelsea for the German manager and now begins the 2nd phase of his tenure in this 1st season. The players have put themselves into a solid position to move up the table and we need to continue that form from before the international break. One major difference though needs to be our ability to score goals. Chelsea need to be more clinical in front of goal and we need to start scoring more. We had several players on the score sheet during the international break although the media seemed to hone in on Timo Werner who missed a good chance to score against North Macedonia. Werner didn’t start any of the 3 games for Germany and looked rusty. In reply to this situation Tuchel only said that Timo didn’t need to focus on this and that he has been scoring since he was 5 years old. If now the goals are not going in it’s ok and it will come. Timo cannot force the situation. Other than that we need to continue how we were playing and we should be able to achieve some great things this season.

Chelsea Team Preview

Chelsea will be without Kante for this game but he should be back soon enough. Tammy Abraham is also out it seems and might not be fit until the FA Cup game against City. Mendy should start in goal with Azpilicueta, Silva, and Zouma in as the back 3. I think that Christensen, and Rudiger will both heavily involved with their national teams and probably need a rest. Reece James, and Alonso should start as the wing backs with Chilwell also having played during the week. Kovacic, and Jorginho should start in pivot with Ziyech, Werner, and Giroud up front. West Brom will sit back and frustrate and Giroud will be needed to physically disturb the backline. Ziyech’s creativity will also be essential. The likes of Havertz, Mount, and Pulisic could start but they also started all 3 games for their national teams and I guess they might be rested. Several options to select from but I am guessing this would be the freshest team possible.

West Brom Team Preview

West Brom will be without Connor Gallagher who is ineligible to play because his parent club is Chelsea. Other than that Allardyce has a fit squad to select from. Big Sam uses a standard 4-1-4-1 formation and has some danger men in his starting XI. Johnstone is quiet a good goalkeeper and has been essential in keeping West Brom’s losses respectable. Pereira, and Phillips add a threat from the wing’s while Maitland-Niles has added a threat through the middle as well. Snodgrass will probably start in place of Gallagher while Diagne will lead the line. Callum Robinson, Ajayi, Robsen-Kanu are all a threat off the bench. West Brom are a dogged team who like to defend and counter with pace and they have the players to do that.

So starts a run of 12 games with a possibility of 4 more if things go Chelsea’s way as we look to end the season on a high. Our goal for the Premier League is very much to consolidate top four and finish as high as possible. It all begins with West Brom tomorrow! COME ON CHELSEA!!!
