All to play for on the final day!
Chelsea travel to Birmingham to play Aston Villa who sit 11th in the table and 11th will be there’s for this season as they cannot move higher or lower than that. For Villa it’s been a good season especially after just managing to survive last season. They were really good during the 1st half of the season but they have filtered off in the 2nd half. 11th like I said is a positive finish for them and something build on for next season. For Villa though it will be a home game and 10,000 fans will be back in the stadium to see their team after what has been more than an year. If anything Villa will play for them.
Chelsea go into this game once again sitting 3rd in the table a point clear of Liverpool and Leicester who are 4th and 5th. Chelsea fought well and dominated the game against Leicester to get 3 points in what seemed to be a Battle of the Bridge 2.0 scenario. Like Tuchel said at the end of that game though nothing is done. It was a good win but the job needs to be finished on Sunday. For Chelsea a win would guarantee them 3rd and a place in the Champions League final regardless of results elsewhere. A draw would be enough if one or both of Liverpool and Leicester drop points. A loss would be enough if one or both of Liverpool and Leicester lose. Ideally though for Chelsea we need to win like we have for much of the last few weeks. We fought so hard against Leicester and we need to keep that level for one more game in the league and then a big final in Porto.
Chelsea Team Preview
Chelsea and Tuchel will wait and see with Havertz and Kante but they should be back for the Champions League Final if not the weekend. Christensen is back in contention for the game and has been training for a few days. Mendy should start in goal with Azpilicueta, Silva, and Rudiger as the centre backs. Reece James and Chilwell should continue as the wing backs with Kovacic and Jorginho as the midfielders. Mount and Werner should be nailed on to start as well with the final place open for change. I think Pulisic will keep his place. Ziyech could start but I think he will be on the bench. No changes from Leicester because we have had around 5 days of rest and our next game is next Saturday. No need to rotate and it’s more important to keep this momentum going. Tuchel did say though that if the game is not going there way then they might need to take some risks with their substitutions.
Aston Villa Team Preview
Villa are coming a big win against Spurs on a day where they completely ran riot against Kane and co. Villa should have won by a lot more than their 2-1 scoreline. Martinez has been a revelation for them this season and probably is one of the signings of the season. Konsa, Hause, Mings, and Targett make up their reliable back four. McGinn, and Douglas Luiz should start in the midfield. Luiz is a proper CDM while McGinn adds that pace and creativity from a deeper role. El Ghazi has been really good in recent weeks while Grealish is back as well and should sit in the centre right behind the striker. Traore has been playing well as well down the right hand side. Up front Watkins has been really good and is one of the top scorers in the league this season. Villa are a team to take seriously and they deserve their position in the table if not more.
Starting XI Prediction
For yet another season we go into the final day fighting for top four. I believe this team can do it, we need to take our chances and it won’t be easy with Martinez in goal. The pressure will be there from away fans as well but it’s just two more games of top quality performance to go for the season. Let’s get 3rd! COME ON CHELSEA!!!
