Weekend Football Review

Very interesting results!

Premier League MW 3

Man City 5 vs. 0 Arsenal

Arsenal travelled to the Etihad to play City and after 5 minutes of good football they melted. Gundogan got the first goal in the 7th minute after defensive errors again. Torres scored in the 12th minute after more comical defending while Xhaka was sent off for Arsenal in the 35th minute for a two footed tackle. Jesus then made it three in the 43rd minute. Rodri scored the 4th in the 53rd minute while Torres scored the 5th in the 84th minute. Arsenal had no reply throughout the game and it was a dismal performance by the players. City move up to 7th with the win while Arsenal drop down to 20th with no points and no goals to their name having conceded 9. Very very poor.

Newcastle 2 vs. 2 Southampton

This game lit up in the 2nd half with Wilson scoring in the 55th minute to give Newcastle the lead. Elyounoussi scored in the 74th minute for Southampton to level matters. Saint-Maximin restored Newcastle’s lead in the 91st minute but Ward-Prowse equalised in the 96th minute via a penalty. Newcastle get their first point of the season as they move up to 17th while Southampton gain another point and move up to 13th in the table.

Brighton 0 vs. 2 Everton

Gray scored in the 41st minute, and Calvert-Lewin scored a penalty in the 58th minute to make it 2. Brighton were again punished by their inability to finish because they dominated the game in terms of possession. Everton are playing like a Benitez side and getting the job done. Brighton drop down to 8th in the table while Everton move up to 6th in the table.

West Ham 2 vs. 2 Crystal Palace

Fornals scored in the 39th minute to give West Ham the lead in this London derby. Gallagher equalised for Palace in the 58th minute after a scrimmage for the ball. Antonio restored West Ham’s lead in the 68th minute with a brilliant finish but Gallagher equalised for Palace once again in the 70th minute after some great work in the box. West Ham drop down to 2nd with the draw while Palace remain 14th with their first point and goals under Vieira.

Norwich 1 vs. 2 Leicester

Vardy scored in the 8th minute to give Leicester the lead while Pukki scored a penalty right before half time to equalise for Norwich. Albrighton scored the winner in the 76th minute for Leicester. Norwich remain on 0 points as their tough start continues sitting 19th in the table. Leicester return to winning ways moving up to 9th in the table.

Aston Villa 1 vs. 1 Brentford

Toney scored in the 7th minute for Brentford with this first goal of the season while Buendia equalised for Villa with his first goal of the season in the 13th minute. The rest of the game was even and neither team got the winner. Villa drop into 11th with the point while Brentford drop down to 10th with the point. Villa are beginning to pick up pace while Brentford have started very well.

Burnley 1 vs. 1 Leeds

Wood scored in the 61st minute while Bamford got his first goal of the season in the 86th minute to get a point for Leeds. Burnley get their first point of the season moving into 16th while Leeds are still looking for a win this season as they remain 15th in the table. A slow start from Leeds while Burnley are where they are expected to be.

Tottenham 1 vs. 0 Watford

Son scored in the 42nd minute with a lucky free kick but Spurs generally dominated the game and were solid defensively. Tottenham go top of the table with 9 points being the only team to have a 100 percent record and not having conceded a goal. Watford drop down to 12th with the loss but a decent start for the Hornets this season. Nuno must be over the moon and for two weeks now they are top of the table while Arsenal are bottom of the table.

Wolverhampton 0 vs. 1 Man United

Wolves were the dominant team for 79 minutes of this game. Wolves should have scored 2-3 goals in the 1st half but they weren’t able to finish and anyone who knows United knew that in the 2nd half they would get one chance and someone would take it. Greenwood was that person in the 80th minute and United got 3 points. Greenwood and De Gea bailed Ole out once again and that was basically it. Wolves drop down to 18th with the loss having lost a 3rd game but they are playing good football and they should start winning games sooner or later. United move up to 3rd in the table with the win and for Ole he continues to live on his luck.

La Liga MW 3

Valencia won 3-0 against Alaves, Sevilla drew with Elche 1-1, Real Madrid beat Betis 0-1, Barcelona beat Getafe 2-1, and Atletico drew with Villarreal 2-2. The La Liga season is going to be a tasty one this season. Real Madrid lead the table on goal difference but Sevilla, Valencia, Barcelona, and Atletico are all level on points with 7. A very interesting start to the season and its all to play for in Spain.

Serie MW 2

Inter beat Verona 1-3, Lazio beat Spezia 6-1, Atalanta drew with Bologna 0-0, Empoli beat Juventus 0-1, Napoli beat Genoa 1-2, Roma beat Salernitana 0-4, and Milan beat Cagliari 4-1. Serie A like La Liga is setting up to be a tasty race even though it’s only been two games. Lazio lead the table but Inter, Roma, Milan, and Napoli are all level on points with 6. Atalanta sit 9th in the table while Juventus are 12th in the table. A solid start for most of the hard hitters but Allegri has some work to do in the coming weeks to sort out this Juventus team who no longer have Ronaldo.

Bundesliga MW 3

Dortmund beat Hoffenheim 3-2, Leverkusen beat Augsburg 1-4, Bayern thrashed Hertha 5-0, and Wolfsburg beat Leipzig 1-0. Wolfsburg have a perfect start to the season with 9 points as they sit top of the table while Leverkusen, Bayern, and Freiburg make up the top four. Dortmund are up to 5th in the table but Leipzig are struggling as they sit 10th. It seems like the Bundesliga is looking to be an interesting race but it’s what happens post December that will actually tell how the season will pan out. Wolfsburg are looking consistent though. Leipzig have work to do. Rose is starting to get Dortmund revved up.

Ligue MW 4

Lyon beat Nantes 0-1, Marseille beat St.Etienne 3-1, Monaco beat Troyes 1-2, Lille beat Montpellier 2-1, and PSG beat Reims 0-2. PSG have a perfect start and lead the league as predicted with Messi making his debut off the bench. Angers, Clermont, and Nice make up the top four. Marseille sit 5th in the table while Lyon, and Lille sit 9th and 10th. Monaco sit 14th. Ligue 1 is looking like it’s usual self this season. It really is PSG and if they slip up otherwise there is only one winner.
