London Derby time!
Chelsea travel to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday to play Tottenham who sit 7th in the table having won 3 and lost 1. The loss came last week as Palace beat Spurs 3-0 at home. Spurs beat City on the opening weekend but got won each of their games by a single goal. None of the wins have been dominant ones but Spurs managed to hold on in those initial 3 games. Another tough test for Nuno and co.
Chelsea go into the game sitting 4th in the table having beaten Zenit during the week in a game which the Blues did not dominate but still got the job done. Lukaku provided the winner once again and Tuchel said that it would take some time for Chelsea to pick up the pace. What Tuchel did say is that the fact Chelsea are winning these games shows that we are heading in the right direction even having not reached our best levels yet. Tuchel also said that regardless of where Spurs were or what was happening they would always pose a threat. An away London derby especially between Spurs and Chelsea is always a feisty one. We have done well at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and Tuchel already has a win there as a Chelsea manager albeit without fans in the stadium.
Chelsea Team Preview
Chelsea are still without Pulisic who is back in individual training but not involved with the squad yet. Kante is back and ready to go as Tuchel said. Mendy should start in goal with Christensen, Silva, and Rudiger in the back three. Azpilicueta, and Chilwell should start as the wing backs but Alonso could start having had a good record against Spurs and being in good form himself. Kante, and Jorginho should start in midfield but Kovacic has been brilliant and could start in place of Jorginho. Lukaku will start up top without a doubt but who starts with him is the confusing question. I think Werner should be one of the that starts with Lukaku and the other one will be one of Mount, Havertz, Ziyech, or Hudson-Odoi. I doubt it’s Hudson-Odoi. Odds are that Havertz and Mount will start with Lukaku but I would start Mount, Werner, and Lukaku. Although Havertz will likely start and looks great in training as well. Either way there are a lot of options available to Tuchel.
Tottenham Team Preview
Tottenham are without several key players. Bergwijn, Moura and Tanganga should not be able to play this game with the first two getting injured on Thursday. Son, Dier and Sessegnon could be available but there are question marks over their fitness as well. Lo Celso, Romero, and Sanchez have been isolating and I think they will make the squad. Spurs have been busy in the transfer window but keeping Kane as their best piece of business. Nuno has not experimented with a back three at Spurs but the fact there is such a shortage in CB’s I don’t think he will dare in this game. Lloris should start in goal with Doherty, Rodon, Sanchez, and Region in defence. Romero is probably their best defender but he has not started a game yet for Spurs. Skipp, Hojbjerg, and Alli should start in the midfield with Son, Kane and Gil up front. I think Son could pull through with some miracle. Spurs have been decent at the back but this is no where near their best team. Gil is an exciting young player as well. Nuno hasn’t had too much time to stamp his authority but one can always expect a solid defensive display.
Starting XI Prediction
Games against Spurs are always big ones just because of the rivalry. The gap between the two clubs is greatest it has been in recent memory though. That along with the injuries and I expect Chelsea to win even if it’s a tough game. What I really want to see is our attack to click and for us to return to our dominant display. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
