Weekend Football Preview

Big games this weekend!

Premier League MW 6

Man United vs. Aston Villa

3rd placed Man United sit joint top of the table as they take on Villa who sit 10th in the Premier League. United have not had the best few games outside the league but they managed to win against West Ham in dramatic fashion last weekend. Villa have looked god in their recent games and have been hard to break down. Several players were rested during the week and they should be fresh for the fight. Two teams with rested players, United will be the favourites but Villa could get something out of this game.

Leicester vs. Burnley

Leicester sit 12th having lost their last 2 as they take on 19th placed Burnley who are yet to win a game this season. Leicester have not hit the ground running this season and have been inconsistent in form. Burnley on the other hand have struggled in the league and face a tough test once again. Leicester should win this game but Sean Dyche will make it difficult.

Everton vs. Norwich

Everton sit 6th in the table but lost their first game last weekend as they look to bounce back against bottom of the table Norwich who are the only team that are yet to gain even a point this season. Everton will be looking to bounce back and Norwich in current form are the best team to face. Norwich really need to start winning because it looks like they will be heading back down at the current rate.

Leeds vs. West Ham

Leeds sit 17th in the table and are yet to win a game this season as they take on West Ham who sit 8th and lost their first game last weekend and are winless in their last three. West Ham rested several players during their midweek game and Leeds have a few injuries that they might need to deal with. Leeds have pressure on them to win the game and West Ham have Antonio back. This could be a high scoring affair.

Watford vs. Newcastle

Watford sit 11th and are doing quiet well all things considered as they take on Newcastle who sit 18th and without a win this season. The pressure is on Steve Bruce but Newcastle have been playing well in their games. Watford have looked good and Sarr seems to be finding form. It could be a close game but Watford on current form should win.

Brentford vs. Liverpool

Brentford sit 9th in the table and returned to winning ways last weekend but they welcome Liverpool who sit 2nd due to the alphabet and are looking to gain an advantage. With Chelsea facing City all Liverpool and Klopp will want to do is win this game so they can keep pace at the top and potentially create a gap. It should be an entertaining game and Brentford play some good football. Liverpool should win this though, but hopefully Brentford can channel that amazing atmosphere they had against Arsenal and get something from this game.

Southampton vs. Wolverhampton

Southampton sit 15th in the table without a win but have drawn their last 4 games as they take on Wolves who sit 16th and lost last weekend. Southampton have played well and so have Wolves but both teams have not been able to see out the games to get the result. Wolves have not been clinical and that has cost them many points. This should be a fun game and we could see goals.

Arsenal vs. Tottenham

It’s the North London Derby as Arsenal welcome Tottenham. Arsenal sit 13th in the table having won their last two while Spurs sit 7th having lost their last two. Two teams apparently heading in the opposite trajectory at the moment. Spurs won their first three but were far from convincing while Arsenal lost their last three and were dismal. Spurs have lost their last two by a 0-6 scoreline while Arsenal have won by scoring a goal in each game but have dominated neither game. Neither team is playing well but it should be an entertaining game.

Crystal Palace vs. Brighton

Palace sit 14th in the table while Brighton sit 4th in the table. Palace have done well this season given how much change they went through in the summer but Brighton have improved massively. Brighton have started scoring and that has basically been added to their good defence and Graham Potter is now winning games. This should be a good game but Brighton look very good at the moment.

La Liga MW 7

Atletico travel to Alaves, Valencia take on Bilbao, Sevilla take on Espanyol, Real Madrid take on Villarreal, and Barcelona take on Levante. Real Madrid sit 2 points cleat at the top of La Liga with Atletico, Sociedad, and Sevilla making up the top four. Barcelona have dropped down to 7th while Villarreal sit 12th. Real Madrid look very good at the moment and Ancelotti has got them scoring goals for fun but they are still suspect defensively. Barcelona are going from problem to problem and they are just a shamble at the moment. Atletico slipped up recently but have been quiet good still. What a race in Spain.

Serie MW 6

Milan travel to Spezia, Inter take on Atalanta, Juventus take on Sampdoria, Lazio take on Roma in a derby, and Napoli welcome Cagliari. Napoli sit 2 points clear at the top of Serie A with Inter, Milan, and Roma making up the top four. Atalanta have moved up to 5th while Lazio sit 7th. Juventus have moved up to 12th after finally getting their first win. Napoli and Milan could gain an advantage over the rest with everyone else facing tricky fixtures this weekend. Juventus will want to build on their win. The race in Italy is fun and any team looks like they could win.

Bundesliga MW 6

Bayern travel to Furth, Wolfsburg travel to Hoffenheim, Leverkusen take on Mainz, Leipzig take on Hertha Berlin, Monchengladbach take on Dortmund. Bayern, and Wolfsburg are level on points at the top of the table while Dortmund and Leverkusen make up the top four. Leipzig sit 12th, and Monchengladbach sit 16th. Bayern started slowly but have already reached the top and I don’t think anyone will push them off that position. All the other teams can do is try and match Bayern’s results, and hope Bayern slip up.

Ligue MW 8

Lille travel to Strasbourg, Lyon take on Lorient, PSG take on Montpellier, Monaco travel to Clermont, and Marseille take on Lens. PSG are already 7 points clear with Marseille, Angers, and Lens making up the first four. Lyon sit 6th with Monaco and Lille 13th and 14th. Ligue 1 is already done and dusted in my opinion so let’s see who can get Champions League football.
