Weekend Football Preview

Final football before another international break….

Premier League MW 7

Man United vs. Everton

4th placed Man United welcome 5th placed Everton to Old Trafford for another early kick off. The two teams are separated by goal difference and a win for either would send them 3 points clear. United were busy during the week where they beat Villarreal in the final moments thanks to Ronaldo. Everton are playing well under Benitez and have become this counter attacking team. United are very much still the moments team. Ole has little to no input and it is really up to players like De Gea and Ronaldo to come up with wins. Early kick offs are always an upset and I can feel another one coming at Old Trafford. Everton will have to be clinical though and take their chances.

Wolverhampton vs. Newcastle

14th placed Wolves entertain 17th placed Newcastle. Newcastle are still searching for their first win of the season but they face a tough task against a Wolves side that is playing good football. Newcastle are unbeaten in their last two and are perhaps unlucky not to have won any of those games. This will be a close one but on paper Wolves are probably ahead of Newcastle.

Burnley vs. Norwich

Burnley sit 19th and two points above 20th placed Norwich who have no points to their name. Burnley did well against Leicester last weekend and will feel that they can finally get their first win this weekend against the Canaries. Norwich have to win this game or at the very least not lose otherwise they could find themselves falling further away from the rest. A big game at the bottom of the table.

Leeds vs. Watford

18th placed Leeds still without a win take on Watford who sit 12th in the table. Leeds do are still looking for those first 3 points while Watford have done quite well in their first 6 games. Attack against defence in this game but Watford are dangerous on the counter and could use Leeds openness to their advantage. A result that can go either way.

Brighton vs. Arsenal

6th placed Brighton have had a stellar start to the season as they take on Arsenal who sit 10th in the table having won their last three and come off a brilliant win against Spurs. This should be a great game to end Saturday and Brighton will be confident that they can get a result out of this game. One to watch for sure.

Tottenham vs. Aston Villa

11th placed Tottenham have lost their last three games all three coming in London as they take on Villa who sit 8th in the table and have returned to form. Villa beat United last weekend in an accomplished performance and will look at Spurs and see a team that is there for the taking. Another defeat for Nuno would surely be too much for the Portuguese to take so this is a must win for Spurs and him.

West Ham vs. Brentford

7th placed West Ham take on 9th placed Brentford in a big London Derby for the two teams. 2 points separate the sides and a win for Brentford would take them above West Ham. A win for the Hammers would send them 5 points clear. Brentford have done extremely well this season and their 3-3 draw against Liverpool last weekend was a great game. West Ham are playing good football under Moyes and are a team in form. A great game for sure.

Crystal Palace vs. Leicester

15th placed Palace take on 13th placed Leicester with only a point separating the two teams. Leicester have not done well this season and another defeat in the Europa League during the week has not raised any morale. Palace have done well given the circumstances this season. Vieira has got them performing and showing fight in each game. Palace could get another win or a point from this game.

Liverpool vs. Man City

The big one to end the weekend as league leaders Liverpool take on 2nd placed Man City with a point separating the two sides. A win for Liverpool send them 4 points clear while a win for City sends them 2 points above Liverpool. A draw would be a favourable outcome for the teams behind them if those teams can win their games. Liverpool did well in Porto during the week while City were beaten by PSG but City beat Chelsea last weekend in a brilliant performance while Liverpool drew against Brentford. This should be a highly entertaining game and as a Chelsea fan I am hoping for a draw or City win.

La Liga MW 8

Valencia travel to Cadiz, Atletico take on Barcelona, Real Madrid travel to Espanyol, Villarreal take on Real Betis, and Sevilla travel to Granada. Real lead the pack in La Liga but no team looks to be in consistent form at the moment. Real lost to Sheriff in the Champions League while Barcelona look in turmoil at the moment. Atletico look good but are still inconsistent. The other teams are also there about when it comes to the title race. As far as title races go this is an interesting league because no team is dominant at the moment.

Serie MW 7

Juventus play a local derby against Torino, Inter travel to Sassuolo, Lazio travel to Bologna, Napoli travel to Fiorentina, Roma take on Empoli, and Milan travel to Atalanta. 2 points separate each of the top four teams in the league while Napoli lead the pack. Juventus are beginning to pick up form and a win against Chelsea during the week would have only reinforced their belief. An interesting title race for sure and it’s all about who slips up.

Bundesliga MW 7

Wolfsburg take on Monchengladbach, Dortmund take on Augsburg, Leipzig take on Bochum, Bayern take on Frankfurt, and Leverkusen travel to Arminia. Bundesliga has Bayern 3 points clear at the top and that gap is likely to only increase. Unless Bayern slip up the rest don’t stand a chance. All they can do is keep pace with the holders although that also seems a tall order at times.

Ligue MW 9

PSG travel to Rennes, Monaco take on Bordeaux, Lille take on Marseille, and Lyon travel to St.Etienne. PSG are already 9 points clear at the top of the league so the title race is pretty much done and dusted. The rest are fighting it out for the Champions League places.
