Chelsea 7 vs. 0 Norwich MW 9 Review

Only what was needed.

Chelsea took on bottom of the table Norwich for MW 9 of the Premier League season looking to stay at the top of the table for another week. Norwich selected the exact XI as predicted with 3 at the back. Tuchel went with Mendy in goal, and a back three of Chalobah, Silva, and Rudiger. James, and Chilwell started as the wing backs with Jorginho, and Kovacic in the midfield. Up front, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, and Havertz completed the starting XI. Some key players given a rest but a strong XI none the less especially with both Lukaku and Werner out of the game.

It was all Chelsea from minute one as Norwich were pinned back in their own half. The Chelsea players were up for it with a high press and quick passes. The first goal came in the 8th minute as a clearance from the Norwich box fell to Jorginho who passed the ball to Mount. Mount took a touch and fired it into the bottom right hand corner to make it 1-0 for Chelsea. First goal for Mount this season and Chelsea’s 16th different goal scorer. Hudson-Odoi then made it 2-0 in the 18th minute after Jorginho played a brilliant through ball and CHO down the left hand side finessed it past Krul. CHO’s first goal of the season and Chelsea’s 17th different goal scorer. Chelsea’s third goal of the half came in the 42nd minute with Mount playing in Reece James and James dinked the ball over Krul. A 3rd Cobham goal scorer for the day. At half time Chelsea were cruising and clinical and in the lead by 3 goals.

Farke made some changes in the 2nd half and Rashica had an early chance to score but Mendy made a brilliant save with his feet to keep the clean sheet. Chilwell then made it 4-0 in the 57th minute as he thrashed in a shot from the left hand side. 4 in 4 for the left back. Aarons then scored an own goal to give Chelsea the 5th goal after a Hudson-Odoi cross was deflected in by him. RLC came on for Jorginho and Gibson was sent off for Norwich in the 65th minute after a poor tackle on James. Ziyech and Barkley then came on for Hudson-Odoi and Havertz. Chelsea then had 4 brilliant chances saved by Krul to keep the scoreline at 5. A penalty was awarded to Chelsea in the 83rd minute which Mount stood up to take but saw saved by Krul. It turned out though that Krul had taken both feet off his line and Mount got a 2nd chance which he did score. 6-0 up. The final goal came in the 91st minute as RLC drove pas the Norwich defence and at the last moment side passed to Mount who finished to complete his first hat trick for Chelsea. Full time and a big win.

Chelsea Team Review

Mendy literally had one save to make the whole game and it was a brilliant one with his feet this time. The rest of the game was a walk in the park for him. Another clean sheet for the world class goalkeeper.

Chalobah, Silva, and Rudiger were all brilliant with Rudiger getting another penalty for Chelsea in this game. James got a goal and Chilwell got a goal as well as our defenders continue to keep clean sheets and also contribute up front. A complete performance from the defence.

Jorginho and Kovacic both got an assist and did well throughout the game as usual. Mount got his first hat trick and was the man of the match. It was good to see Mason play with more freedom mentally and his pressing and eye for a pass and finish were back in this game. Many more goals to come. RLC came on in the 2nd half and got an assist as well as being a constant threat up front. Barkley could have also got a goal off the bench and did well as well.

Hudson-Odoi started on the left wing again and showed his worth in that position. A constant threat throughout the game and got a goal to boot. Hudson-Odoi needs to keep up this consistency and this was a very good first step. No goal for Havertz in this game but he was a good team player and dragged defenders away from the scoring opportunities with his movement. Ziyech came on in the 2nd half and also played some brilliant passes along with coming close a few times. The pass to send RLC through on goal for the 7th came from Ziyech.

Tuchel wanted the other players to step up in this game and everyone of them did. A top performance from everyone selected and even the bench players made an impact. A 7-0 win is the minimum he could have asked for and now he will want this run to continue with the next game.

A day when Cobham and England dominated the goal scoring for Chelsea and the Premier League in general. Top of the table for another week and next up is a visit by Southampton in the Carabao Cup. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
