Chelsea 1 vs. 1 Burnley MW 11 Review

Very good but failed to take our chances…

Chelsea took on Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday for MW 11 of the Premier League season. Burnley started with their usual two banks of four and two up top while Tuchel also started a strong lineup. Mendy was in goal with Christensen, Silva, and Rudiger as the back three. James, and Chilwell started as the wing backs with Jorginho and Kante as the midfielders. Barkley, Hudson-Odoi, and Havertz started up front. A good lineup and Barkley starting after making a few good cameos in recent games.

The whole game can be described simply, it was total domination attack vs defence but Pope made quite a few good saves and Burnley defended well to get the draw. Havertz gave Chelsea the lead in the 33rd minute after a brilliant Reece James cross and not the first that he delivered on the night. The German timed his header perfectly to nestle the ball into the net. Chelsea though could not find that crucial 2nd goal, but unlike previous games where we failed to create the chances this time we created several and we just could not finish for one reason or the other. Vydra then grabbed the equaliser in the 79th minute and that was that.

Chelsea Team Review

No clean sheet for Mendy this weekend but other than that he did not have much to do. The goal was not his fault and other than the goal Burnley didn’t really have any real chance. Just an off day.

Christensen, Silva, and Rudiger did very well but that one lapse in concentration allowed Burnley to get the goal. James was brilliant throughout the game from the right hand side and should have had 3-4 assists in the game. Chilwell did well and there was a moment in the 2nd half when Barkley had space to pass to Chilwell but he chose to shoot and that was a good chance to score the 2nd. That’s basically it.

Jorginho and Kante did well and like the rest of the team tried their level best to get the goals. Barkley had a very good game and found himself in the centre of the action. Ross should have scored though and that was a bit of a frustration. Mount and Loftus-Cheek did come on in the 2nd half and tried like the rest of the team to get that winner.

Hudson-Odoi had a decent game once again and it was good to see him start again as well. Havertz did well up top and got the goal, he should have scored a couple more. It was a situation where we missed Lukaku because these are the games where we need to take our chances and finish. Pulisic also came on in the 2nd half but found little joy against Burnley’s low block.

Tuchel will not be happy with all the missed chances but he said he was impressed with the tempo and performance in general. There were several chances and we did play brilliantly despite the result.

It’s the international break now and Chelsea sit 3 points clear at the top of the table and 4 points clear of Liverpool who are 4th. It’s a good start to the season ahead of what will be a challenging winter period. Two big weeks ahead to get Lukaku, Werner, and Kovacic fit for the upcoming months. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
