A tough run of fixtures begins!
The festive season is upon us with nonstop football on show for the next month and the next international break coming in March. Chelsea had a favourable run of games before the international break but now we face some tough fixtures ahead but the goal is the same as always to win each and every game. First up are 12th placed Leicester who are winless in their last two. Leicester have not had the best of starts to the season and Rodgers is still looking to go on a good run of form. Injuries to key players have not helped the team and the constant links to the United job will also not ease the pressure.
Chelsea sit top of the table as we sit 3 points clear of 2nd placed Man City. We did extremely well in the last phase of games but the draw against Burnley was a sour way to go into the international break. The good thing is it served as a wake up call and should help us pick up the pace with the teams coming up next. Leicester have faced Tuchel twice since the German joined Chelsea. The first game came in the FA Cup final which we lost while the 2nd came a few days later in the Premier League which was a big game in terms of the top four race which Chelsea won. There is a small rivalry there for sure but just because of recent events.
Chelsea Team Preview
Lukaku is back in individual training and hopefully should be back for the team next week while Werner and Mount are back in full training along with Alonso. Silva might be out for this game through tiredness while Kovacic remains out for a couple of weeks. Pulisic is also completely fit again and is available. Mendy should start in goal with a back three of Chalobah, Christensen and Rudiger. James and Chilwell should start as the wing backs with Kante and Loftus-Cheek in midfield. Mount, and Hudson-Odoi should start with Havertz up front. Players like Ziyech could also start having trained and rested over the last two weeks while Saul etc may also feature. There are plenty of options for sure but this would be my preferred XI. Pulisic is another that could feature from the bench. I would rest Jorginho for the game against Juventus with RLC getting another chance impress. Werner should also feature against Juventus and maybe a cameo from the bench in this game would be good for the German. A strong lineup for sure.
Leicester Team Preview
Fofana is a long term injury for Leicester while Tielemans is also not available which is a big loss for the team. Schmeichel should be in goal with a back three of Amartey, Evans, and Soyuncu. Castagne and Pereira should start as the wing backs with a midfield of Soumare, Madison and Ndidi. Iheanacho and Vardy should start up front. There are threats from the bench for sure with Perez, Lookman, Daka, and Barnes all standing out as threats up front. Rodgers could also choose to go with a back four if he wants to start one of the mentioned names. Leicester are a good team who press with intensity and will be up for the game for sure.
Starting XI Prediction
It’s a big game for both teams but for Chelsea and Tuchel it is a case of continuing the positive momentum we created before the international break. With teams around us playing tough games as well this should be seen as another good chance to create a gap on the others. After last season the Chelsea players should be hungry for a win in this game. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
