Weekend Football Preview

Premier League MW 12

Newcastle vs. Brentford

19th placed Newcastle remain the only team without a win this season as they welcome 14th placed Brentford who have lost their last four games. This will be Eddie Howe’s first game in charge of Newcastle as he begins his journey to move Newcastle up the table. Thomas Frank suffered a wake up call over the last month or so and will be wanting to bounce back and ruin yet another big day at Tyneside. An interesting game to watch.

Burnley vs. Crystal Palace

18th placed Burnley are unbeaten in their last three as they take on Palace who sit 10th and are unbeaten in their last five. Palace are doing extremely well under Vieira at the moment while Sean Dyche also seems to have got Burnley going though the motions before the international break. A tough game for the away team but a good challenge none the less.

Aston Villa vs. Brighton

Villa sit 16th having lost their last five as they take on Brighton who sit 7th and have not won any of their last 5 games either but have drawn four of those. Villa are another team under new management with one Steven Gerrard having become their manager over the international break. This is Gerrard’s first job in the Premier League having done extremely well at Rangers over the last three seasons. Graham Potter also needs his team to return to winning ways and this should be a fun and entertaining game to keep an eye on.

Watford vs. Man United

17th placed Watford have only won one of their last five games while United sit 6th and have done the same as well. Surprisingly or perhaps not Solksjaer was not one of the managers to receive the sack over the international break even though United got thrashed by both Liverpool and Man City. Most fans know the truth that the board refuses to see and Ole for good or bad is still the clubs manager. Ranieri will have had time to work with his players at Watford and they will want to cause an upset against a struggling United team. An interesting game for sure.

Wolverhampton vs. West Ham

8th placed Wolves have only lost one of their last five games but that came right before the international break. West Ham sit 3rd in the Premier League table having won their last four and Moyes is sky high right now. Two teams in good form and another high octane and entertaining game is expected.

Norwich vs. Southampton

Norwich sit bottom of the table and finally got their first win before the international break but Farke was fired soon after. Dean Smith has come into replace the German having been sacked form Villa himself. Southampton sit 13th in the table and are unbeaten in their last four with Hassenhutl and the Saints having hit form. Dean Smith is a good manager and has already rescued Villa from relegation a few seasons ago. It will be fun to see how Smith fairs at Norwich and whether the Canaries can pull off a similar feat.

Liverpool vs. Arsenal

4th placed Liverpool ended their unbeaten run before the international break as they take on Arsenal who sit 5th and two points behind them. It’s a massive game for both teams as neither will want to lose ground on the teams ahead of them. Liverpool will want to bounce back in terms of the race for the top while Arsenal will want to enter the top four after what seems like ages. A great game to end a blockbuster Saturday.

Man City vs. Everton

2nd placed City take on 11th placed Everton who are winless in their last five. Benitez had a great start to the season but has fallen away and is looking to bounce back with the Toffees. It will be interesting to see whether Richarlison and or Calvert-Lewin are available for the game. Pep will want to win especially with teams around them playing competitors and also facing difficult fixtures.

Tottenham vs. Leeds

9th placed Tottenham began the Conte era with a draw before the international break as they take on 15th placed Leeds who are unbeaten in their last three. This is Conte’s first home game and the Italian has been working with some of his squad for the last two weeks so we should see an improvement for sure. Kane scored 7 goals over the international break and should have found some sort of touch. Leeds we all know will be open and high on tempo so this should be a fun game for sure.

La Liga MW 14

Villarreal travel to Celta Vigo, Sevilla take on Alaves, Atletico welcome Osasuna, Barcelona take on Espanyol, Real Madrid travel to Granada, and Sociedad welcome Valencia. The biggest news is that Xavi is back at Barcelona as a manager while Dani Alves has also re signed for the club. It is seen as a beginning of a road to redemption for Barcelona and what better way than a local derby to begin with. Sociedad sit a point clear with Real, Sevilla, and Atletico making up the top four. Those three teams have all played a game less than Sociedad though. Barcelona sit 9th in the table while Valencia sit 10th. Villarreal sit 12th in the table. An interesting weekend for sure in Spain and it will be interesting to see who slips up.

Serie MW 13

Atalanta welcome Spezia, Lazio welcome Juventus, Milan travel to Fiorentina, Inter welcome Napoli, and Roma travel to Genoa. Sarri welcomes his old club Juventus while Shevchenko’s first game in charge of Genoa is a visit by Mourinho’s Roma. Napoli and Milan are level on points and 7 clear of third placed Inter. Atalanta make up the top four with Lazio and Roma sitting 5th and 6th. Juventus sit 8th in the table. Serie A is exciting as ever in terms of a title race and it’s another weekend where the likes of Milan and maybe Atalanta can game some advantage over the teams around them.

Bundesliga MW 12

Bayern travel to Augsburg, Leipzig travel to Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg travel to Arminia, Leverkusen take on Bochum, Monchengladbach welcome Furth, and Dortmund take on Stuttgart. Bayern sit 4 points clear of Dortmund while Freiburg and Wolfsburg make up the top four. Leipzig and Leverkusen sit 5th and 6th while Monchengladbach sit 9th in the table. The Bundesliga looks like a foregone conclusion at this point and any hope of a title race is in the hands of Bayern and whether they drop points.

Ligue MW 14

Monaco welcome Lille, PSG take on Nantes, and Lyon welcome Marseille. PSG sit 10 points clear of 2nd placed Lens, while Nice and Marseille make up the top four. Lyon sit 7th while Monaco and Lille sit 11th and 12th. You can see Ligue 1 is far from entertaining at the moment and PSG are on cruise control right now. Ramos is back though and he might get his first minutes on the pitch as a teammate of Messi’s.
