Midweek Football Preview

No time to rest!

Premier League MW 14

Newcastle vs. Norwich

Bottom of the table Newcastle search for their first win as they take on 19th placed Norwich who are looking to continue their unbeaten run. 3 points separate the two teams and this is a big game for Newcastle and Eddie Howe. A loss in this game would really pile the pressure of relegation even at this early stage. A win for Norwich would give them hope as they look to climb up the table. An interesting game for sure.

Leeds vs. Crystal Palace

Leeds sit 17th in the table with 1 win in their last 5 as they take on Palace who sit 11th and lost at the weekend. Palace are for sure the team in better form though and are playing well while Leeds without some key players are struggling at the moment. This should be an open game with plenty of chances and I feel like there will be plenty of goals as well. Palace could get the win though.

Southampton vs. Leicester

15th placed Southampton have lost their last 2 as they take on 10th placed Leicester who finally managed to win at the weekend. Another game which I expect to see goals in. Southampton will want to bounce back after that heavy loss to Liverpool while Leicester will want to build on that win against Watford. The result could go either way.

Wolverhampton vs. Burnley

Wolves sit 6th in the table and have only lost 1 of their last 5 games as they take on Burnley who sit 18th in the table unbeaten in their last four and with a game in hand after not having played at the weekend. This will be a tough game for both teams but Burnley have some rest and will be the fresher of the two teams. I expect Wolves to have more possession but if they don’t score first Burnley could nick a point or more.

West Ham vs. Brighton

West Ham remain 4th in the table but only on goal difference after having lost their last two games. Brighton are 9th in the table and haven’t won in a while as their curse from last season seems to have struck them again. The Seagulls just don’t seem to score goals but they create so much. West Ham need the win if they want to avoid dropping out of the top four while Brighton fans were a bit frustrated at the weekend and will want to get a win. An interesting game.

Everton vs. Liverpool

The Merseyside derby is upon us once again with Liverpool visiting their former manager Rafa Benitez. Everton started the season well but have been extremely poor in recent games and find themselves 14th in the table. Liverpool are on a roll and sit 3rd in the table but they are capable of dropping points as well. If Calver-Lewin, and Richarlison remain out I doubt Everton can get anything out of this game and I expect Liverpool to get a win. All Everton can hope for is to stay strong at the back and maybe get a draw.

Aston Villa vs. Man City

Gerrard has 2 wins in 2 as Villa manager as they sit 13th in the table but Man City are up next and they sit 2nd in the table a point behind Chelsea. It’s safe to say this is a totally different level for Gerrard and co but the spirit is good in Birmingham and they might get something out of this game especially with City also showing some chinks in their armour this season. I expect City to win but Villa could get something out of this game.

Tottenham vs. Brentford

Tottenham sit 7th in the table with a game in hand after having not played at the weekend. Brentford sit 12th in the table after ending their winless run with a win at the weekend. This should be a fun game to watch with Brentford playing their gungho form of football while Conte tries to get Spurs to play some form of his style. Kane is still not firing and Tottenham still need to bounce back after that embarrassing loss to Mura. An interesting game for sure.

Man United vs. Arsenal

The final game comes to us form Old Trafford as 8th placed Man United take on 5th placed Arsenal. It is a big game in the race for top four with 5 points separating the two sides. United parked the bus and did well at Stamford Bridge to get a point at the weekend but they won’t be able to play like that at Old Trafford. Arsenal have done well against poorer opposition this season but have not performed against big 6 bar Tottenham. A big game for both teams and it will be interesting to see who is in charge for this one with Rangnick’s visa getting delayed at the moment.

La Liga Game in hand

Real Madrid take on Bilbao during the week as the two teams play their game in hand. Real Madrid can go 7 points clear at the top of the table if they win while Bilbao can go level on points with Barcelona if they win. A good game to watch.

Serie MW 15

Atalanta take on Venezia, Juventus travel to Salernitana, Inter take on Spezia, Roma travel to Bologna, Napoli travel to Sassuolo, Milan travel to Genoa, and Lazio take on Udinese. Napoli have a 3 point lead at the top of the table as the rest play catch up. Several winnable fixtures for sure with Juventus having a good chance to bounce back after their loss to Atalanta. All the teams should get the win but Napoli and Milan faced the toughest test for sure. Shevchenko will be taking on his former team as well after he became the Genoa manager.

Ligue MW 16

Monaco travel to Angers, PSG take on Nice, Marseille travel to Nantes, Lille travel to Rennes, and Lyon take on Reims. Some big games this weekend in France but given that PSG are 12 points clear it really doesn’t matter. Let’s see if any team can get closer to the top four places.
